- it is implied that Kirk's father was a Starfleet captain who didn't do so well, but saved a bunch of lives. I'm not sure what we know about Kirk's father but I'm pretty sure we didn't know that.

- it is implied that Kirk and Spock ascend to command the Enterprise after Pike and first officer are killed or incapacitated. This is against canon; Kirk succeeded Pike but certainly not immediately, and Spock was an officer under Pike for years before Kirk even arrived. Perhaps this is simply a temporary assumption of command during a crisis, or perhaps this is actually Kobayashi Maru or another ship and the trailer edits it to make it seem like Enterprise.

- it is implied that Nero has a planet killer. This is probably the orbital platform that we keep seeing Sulu fighting on.

- we see a hall of Academy graduates. We notice only a few aliens and none of them seem to be species we're familiar with. The darker cadet uniforms resemble the uniforms seen in ENT.

- the Federation emblem is precisely the same. That's pretty much the first visual thing we've seen that hasn't been changed and/or updated...even the Starfleet insignia is slightly different. It's comforting to see something make its way into the film unchanged.

- Kirk is shown in a bar fight with what appears to be an Academy cadet, though it could just be someone wearing a red outfit.

- we are shown a skyline of what is presumably San Francisco (part of a suspension bridge is seen in the foreground). There are dozens of tall, futuristic skyscrapers, something that we've never seen before...San Francisco is usually depicted as having its present-day skyline with a few new but unobtrusive towers added. No landmarks are recognizable in this shot. The sky is also hazy and grey, something we also don't really see on Earth in the future.

- much of the battle scenes still depict the USS Kelvin and not the Enterprise. I'd suspected that Kelvin is the ship in the Kobayashi Maru scenario, but now I'm thinking it may be fighting along side the Enterprise in real life.

- if I had to guess at the plot based on the trailers, it would be that Nero has some sort of problem with Vulcan-Romulan reunification and goes back in time to destroy Vulcan with his planet-killing device. Pike and Enterprise are called in to stop him, and Kirk winds up taking control of the ship. The latter is probably in an alternate timeline from the Trek we know, since it's a breach of canon and it involves time travel. Some Chicken Little Trekkies have speculated that whatever Nero does in the movie ends up changing all of Trek history, allowing a "reboot" in the most literal sense. I'd prefer to keep things as they are and just try to reconcile canon inconsistencies...I've gotten pretty good at that.
