I have never seen a single episode of Star Trek in my entire life, and I liked it.

Is it okay for a 9 and 10 year old?

There is sex between a human and an alien. Other than that, it is ok

The Madea family Admiral could have been left out. I guess no other Actors were available?

Uhura and Kirk had sort of a thing. Their kiss was a big deal at the time.

Yeah, I thought it was Nurse Chapel who had a thing for Spock.
Uhura and Kirk kissed that one time, and I always got the impression that Janice had a thing for Kirk... |

I thought it was awesome.
Great casting, lots of humor...you would really enjoy it if you remembered the original characters. JJ got casting and characterizations right on. |

Just got back. Not a huge trekkie--just a baby boomer who's seen all of the original (a hundred years ago, of course), some of the movies, a bit of
Picard, and nothing else.
The new one is full of win on many, many levels. Near-perfect concept reboot for the new century. Economical yet precise introductions of "young" versions of established characters. Fun action flick with a fairly linear and accessible plotline (except perhaps for the time loop alternate reality stuff that seemingly every project needs these days). Even the sexy twist after the Pine/Saldana PR buildup was pretty sweet--not to mention fucking hot. |

Nurse Chapel had the hots for Spock.
Sulu wanted Uhura. Other than his manwhoring, Kirk and Yeoman Rand had a mutual flirtation. That's all for the regular cast members. |

Having just seen it, I'd say it was just "ok."
Overall, it was an alright film, but it felt too much like a starter film (I understand its a prequel, but the story just didn't feel "right") and I felt like it didn't adequately flesh out some of the characters, most notably Sulu and Nero. The shining characters of the film, though, are most definitely Chekov and Scotty. They were portrayed with excellence. |
