Gwen has sold more albums in her career than all the contestants from this season will sell combined

Well you certainly schooled us. I take it all back. Gwen's vocals were brilliant and amazing and her tone carried the sheen of a thousand angel farts.

I thought that was totally fantastic. Do you people even listen to rock music or do you just get it from watching American Idol?

Yeah, running around and attempting to do pushups is amazing. Allison, at half her age, vastly outperformed Gwen. Oh yeah, she's also getting fat again. |

I just don't really consider No Doubt "rock". And I've never liked Gwen's voice. I think someone on another forum once stated she sounded like a constipated baby. That about sums it up for me. Decent performer though. |

(Off the topic, but that concert featured Jewel getting hit in the tit with a Frisbee and storming off stage after like 2 songs.) Anyway, I used to crush on young hip fun quirky Gwen.... but now it's a tired act and the skills don't back it, to my tastes. |

I think some are confusing her performance with her vocals - notice is say 'sounded' like shit.
Sorry folks, she DID sound like shit. Her vocals have always been marginal at best. Didn't she even say that she wasn't really much of a singer when she was the guest mentor last year? Her energy, her fashion and her cuteness certainly help offset her lack of vocal prowess, but that worked alot better when she was 25. It's a little bizarre and off putting when she's pushing 40. The band is decent - they are tight, but then again, you do get tight playing with the same guys for 18 years. They've probably played this song, what 10,000 times? I've met Adrian Young at drum shows - he's a nice guy and a decent drummer. Decent. Not great, but passable. By comparison - do you remember when No Doubt played at the Superbowl with Sting and they did 'Message In a Bottle'? I thought that was great. This not so much. You'd think a pro singer with the exposure of Gwen would have vocal coaches working with her to help her breathing and annunciation as she performs. Bottom line - I thought she wasn't as entertaining as she was when she was younger. I thought she looked 'hella good' for pushing 40 and having recently spit out 2 kids. I thought the bad was decent. I'm glad they kept the song the way we all know it versus changing it around. I though her vocals, which have never been strong, were bad. The comment was correct - based on her vocals alone ('This is a singing competition'), she wouldn't make Hollywood week. |

I saw them in Chicago in 1986 (November Coming Fire tour I believe) with Necros and Corrosion of Conformity (back when they were a hardcore band and not southern rock douchery). Great show. Danzig at his best. |

Gregoire wrote: Seriously dude, do you HONESTLY think her VOCALS were that good? Her voice has always been marginal at best and she was horribly out of breath the entire time. And we can flip it back on you as well. No Doubt is hardly considered a killer rock band. If anything, they are a successful pop band that many have passed off as poseurs. Depends on your genre, but there are TONS of rock bands that are better, some male led, some female led. We can go by decade and genre if you like. Some great ROCK bands out there today - Kings of Leon, Opeth, Porcupine Tree, The Sword, Guster, et, al. These are great bands. No Doubt always seemed to be more of a novelty band with a cute chick singer. If you were to discuss 'great bands' with rock music purists, I think you'd get dismissed it you mentioned No Doubt. Just as you are trying dismiss us as getting our 'rock' from American Idol. |

I don't expect amazing vocals from Gwen.
But the grunting and push-ups was too much. If this is what their live show is like than I think I'll just wait for the album next year. |

This is the way Gwen has sounded her entire career. She's never sounded good live. Why the surprise?

My daughter and I love No Doubt and we love Gwens solo work, but everytime she has been live on American Idol her voice has been crap (she sounds so affected and could not sing one part of the song like it sounds on the Cd's) we have both decided that she can't sing and that her vocal recordings are manipulated. Its a shame that the fact that she sounds like crap live has put a damper on how we feel about her and her ability as an artist. I certainly won't be going to see her and No Doubt live this summer. |
