OMG, OMG. I haven't had a chance to read through yet, but I just need to say that Danny doing Dream On was one of the most ridiculous, hideous
performances I have heard--seasons 5-8. Brutal.
And I am hella po'd that the judges did not critique it as deserved. What? Is Danny too 'fragile' to hear the truth???!!! F*ck. Danny ass leeches. All of them. Boo. On a good note, Adam and Allison kicked A on their duet. Maybe one of my fav AI performances ever. (After many of Cook's, of course,) And Adam did an AMAZING job with Zepplin. More rock, less screeching. Thumbs up! The way the judges treat Kris sucks. It does. |

Slash had a hard time keeping a straight face when he worked with GoPee, I think. I hate the judges for continuing to pimp the wife killer over Kris and Allison. Hate them all for the moment. |

In an effort to be objective, I listened to the streaming video of this while reading other things and tried to really hear without watching a face I disliked.
Verdict: several serious pitch problems, uneven vocal timbre, and a REALLY pathetic screaming note he was insane to attempt.
My question: If Adam and Kris are selling more music than Danny is, and they both sing better than Danny does, and Kris is this nice clean-cut Christian type they want so much, AND all this girls are fainting over the Kradam... why in blue blazes are they so hell-bent on having Danny make this final? I mean, last year, I may not have loved the Archuleta, but I did get why the judges did. Ditto Jordin and even more Carrie. But this idiot? I don't understand. He's not handsome OR excellent OR particularly sweet and likable. I just don't get it. |

ADAM - I'm absolutely flabbergasted that Led Zeppelin song cleared on this show. I would have bet a lot of
money that that would never, ever happen. Adam delivered. He did a better-than-passable version of an anthemic song that cannot be improved upon. I disagree
with Simon about the originality. Other than the little bit at the end where he went a cappella, I didn't see it. Still, if you're going to do
sound-alike version of a song, sounding like Zeppelin is a pretty ballsy way to go. Or at least it would be ballsy for somebody else. For Adam, it was probably
his most "safe" performance to date. At least it wasn't unnecessarily shrieky. Good.
ALLISON - Allison's performance was also an impressive duplicate of the original. I actually really like that she chose a Joplin song that isn't overdone (although I may have preferred "Bobby McGee"). This was a better choice than "Somebody to Love" which would have probably been too shouty. Allison's hair looked much better (and more appropriate) this week, too. KRIS & DANNY - I suspected that the idea of duets was a bad one and I was proven right. That was just a weird performance. They weren't really interacting with one another on stage, which should come as no surprise as they are in competition with one another. I agree that the harmonies were good and their two voices blend well together. On their individual parts, though, they were less successful, particularly Kris. That is also not surprising, because Kris' strength is in bringing his own artistry to a song, but you can't really impose that on a partner in a duet. I was put off by Danny's riffing on the last note - not cool when you're working with a partner! KRIS - I thought this was easily the most original performance and I give props to Kris for really embracing the rock theme while bringing his own flavor. Also, he came off harder and more masculine than he often does. I liked it. However, I don't think it was the best song choice for his voice. It's not a rangy or a melodic song, and Kris has a voice that is showcased best with more range. I can't believe Simon called this "safe", though, while praising Adam so effusively for doing something so firmly in his own wheelhouse. DANNY - The middle of the song was very good. The beginning was tentative and his attempted scoop was way off. The shout at the end was horrendous. Funny that they chose that for the recap. Somebody on the production staff must really hate Danny (see below). I loved Danny's outfit this week, though. ADAM & ALLISON - Clearly they were more collaborative and interactive and worked together much better than the other pair. Adam actually seemed to be going out of his way to support Allison rather than to showcase himself. Props for that. All in all, though, I found it kind of boring, and I've never been a big fan of that song. I'm not sure how to factor duets into the ranking, so I'm just going to rank the individual performances: 1. KRIS - not the best technically, but the one I enjoyed the most 2. ADAM 3. ALLISON 4. DANNY I have to call shenanigans tonight, though. Nine weeks into the finals and they finally give Danny the "pimp spot". Only it's NOT the pimp spot because they followed it up with Adam and Allison's duet. So in a week when they for one of the very few times actually put Adam early in the order, they STILL manage to give him the de facto pimp spot (for the second week in a row, third time in the finals, and fourth time in the competition). I've seriously never seen a case of such overt pimpage on this show. On the flip side, I think this is the strongest final four the show has ever had with no duds, and I wouldn't think it was wrong no matter who goes home tomorrow. I think all four have earned their spots and would be worthy (based on their body of work) of continuing next week.

I never post here, but I had to to say that Danny Gokey had perhaps the most appalling performance I have ever seen this far into the competition. I want to
erase it completely from my aural memory. What a fucking disaster.
