I think Jaime/Cara's storyline is set up for a win. They've never won a single leg, but have overcome language difficulties with the locals, and in the
end win the million dollars. Tammy/Victor's storyline is a re-hash of Ron/Christina's, they don't win the million, but they become closer as
brother and sister and learn that Victor can't always be the big brother all the time. Margie/Luke will prob. get 3rd place like Charla/Mirna proving that
deaf people can do all the same stuff that everyone else can.

You think every female team for the past 14 seasons has been set up for a win. Maybe one of these days it will actually happen.
And once again...THERE ARE NO STORYLINES ON THE AMAZING RACE!!! Whoever wins, wins. Unless you think Freddy/Kendra and Eric/Danielle were compelling stories. Because if someone was writing stories for the show, they sure did a lousy job in those two instances. |

Seacrest22 wrote:Wrong. Almost every team who goes on the show, whether they exit early, exit late, or make it all the way to the end, has an editor-crafted storyline of some sort (read: ALMOST -- this season's Brad & Victoria sure as hell didn't have one, and most of the first-outs, save for Dennis & Erika, Ari & Staella, and Preston & Jennifer, normally don't have one, either). Typically, it's the "big character" teams, the teams the editors want us to keep our eyes on, who get the storylines, while the other teams are just . . . there and portrayed as "throwaway" racers. Thus, every single team this season (again, except Brad & Victoria, possibly) has had a storyline: Preston & Jennifer: dating couple testing their relationship and deciding that they are right for each other, despite going out first. Steve & Linda: "hicks from the sticks" who wanted to see some of the world and just didn't want to get eliminated first; they succeeded, and they went out second. Brad & Victoria: no real story, unless you call Victoria being so damn peppy at every single thing a storyline (sorry, Victoria -- if you're reading this, it got annoying after a while). Amanda & Kris: probably only other team that didn't have any real story, either, though I loved how the editors practically highlighted Amanda's borderline-uselessness and contrasted it with Kris doing almost everything. Christie & Jodi: underdog flight attendants try to survive against so many stronger teams and several brushes with elimination; they finally score a leg win along the way, just before things come crashing down on them. Mel & Mike: father and son just wanting a good time together, and the son comes to respect his father a lot more than he did before going in. Mark & Michael: the main storyline for them was their stupidity at most things and being unable to finally get booted after making so many mistakes; their other thing was the penalties they'd incur. Tammy & Victor: siblings who need to start seeing each other as equals, not as one superior to the other -- and they've made a lot of headway. Kisha & Jen: see Tammy & Victor. Margie & Luke: deaf son who wants to prove to the world that a deaf person can run the race (even though, granted, Adrian already showed us that, but there are many who haven't watched any of the Asian seasons). Jaime & Cara: cheerleaders who must learn to deal with the language barriers and difficult cab drivers to get through the race. See? Nine of the eleven teams have had stories of some sorts, and it's not impossible that the story of one of the F4 teams will culminate in a win. |

I want TK and Rachel's storyline in 100 words or more.

them first place. They remained calm and relaxed even though they almost got eliminated on the third leg(!!). Having almost been singled out for a U-Turn, they
felt their morals were being infringed upon, so they started playing calm, moralizing headgames against the team who pseudo-U-Turned them. This gave them
powers to win the fifth leg of the race and send the U-Turners home via verbal combustion. When they raced to India, Rachel's Super Happy Blinking
propelled them into another first place victory (and simultaneously sending the second set of U-Turners home via telepathic moralization). But, the Super Happy
Blinking quickly wore off on the next leg where they were almost eliminated(!!!!). Even though they had a quick brush with poverty, they managed to have a calm
and relaxed and focused comeuppance on the final leg and remained calm and relaxed through the last Roadblock which secured their win (since they had first
dibs on a better cabbie).

reading the name TK and Rachel made me asleep... but I have to agree, all shows regardless whether it is reality or not, have storylines... If there's no
storyline, what's the show for?

See? Nine of the eleven teams have had stories of some sorts, and it's not impossible that the story of one of the F4 teams will culminate in a win. Those aren't stories; they're character traits (mostly set up since the 5 minute intros). A story has a beginning, a middle and an end, which very few of the teams have been edited to have. They all have journeys, because they're on a race, but they're not always connected to their characters (e.g. Nate/Jen's 'karma' attributed to the slow donkey, Ronald/Christina's Ep 2 failure was linked to their personal relationship vs. Lorena/Jason's second-to-last finish given...nothing). Not that it means anything in terms of finish order since there are several first boots who have had more well-developed storylines than Kisha/Jen and Jaime/Cara, given the limited airtime (Ari/Staella, Avi/Joe, John/Scott, even Dennis/Erika)

Their storyline, only if they survived longer, is that they always go to places with kids and one of them gives the obligatory "hug a local child" and talk about how they're doing the race for their kids and stuff. I reckon they were the first team to do that. So original. <33333 |

Is it too simply to suggest the editing was /is/will be to create drama that attracts viewers and keeps them coming back for future episodes?

what kind of crackhead idiot thought it would be a good idea to even cast tk/rachel? and were they high at the time when they came to that conclusion?

They were recruited so I figure they must have scored some major drugs for the casting directions.

Because they went to the same school as the phenomenally entertaining Nate/Jenn, and the would-have-been-entertaining Ari/Staella, so they probably just
grabbed two randoms from the same year and hope the magic would strike for a third time

Someone in charge of casting obviously went to their high school. I hated all of TAR 12's cast except Nick & Don and Ron & Chris (especially Nate
& Jen).

Okay, after wading and slogging through 11 pages of RFF on this upcoming episode, here's what may happen (don't read if you still want the finale to be
a surprise -- as if I really know the exact happenings):
After getting their TBC clue from Phil, all of the teams get bunched up at the next location where the gnomes are stashed. The gnome pickup occurs very early, like 7 or 8 AM. T/V are the first to find a gnome and J/C are a close second. J/C follow T/V because the brother-sister speak/read the language; thus, both teams end up doing the same detour that doesn't involve any make-up. T/V finish the detour first and they find the U-Turn clue box first. They U-Turn J/C because the gingers are right behind them, plus they don't know where the other two teams are and don't want to risk of wasting a U-Turn if M/L or K/J finished their detour first. The morning sun on unmakeup'd J/C suggests sometime around 8 or 9 AM. Meanwhile, M/L and J/K do the other detour involving makeup and dress up, they finish quickly, but have a hard time finding the U-Turn clue box for several hours (apparently they couldn't ditch the costumes). By this time, T/V have completed the food eating roadblock and found the pitstop -- possibly hours before the production staff expected. The shadows at the pitstop could indicate as early as 11 AM. While the other teams wander, J/C arrive at the makeup detour, do it and then get back to the U-Turn clue box before K/J and M/L. J/C hammer out the roadblock quickly, but then have a hard time navigating to the next road info clue or pitstop. This is when M/L get to the roadblock -- maybe they see three trays -- not knowing there was five -- so they get excited that they might be ahead of both J/C and K/J. Ultimately, M/L are second to arrive at the pitstop as evident by their happy -- instead of relieved -- reaction. The shadows suggest mid-afternoon for M/L check-in. They do their confessional before they know if K/J get eliminated, so they continue to recount the Bitchgate dynamics. J/C struggle to get to the pitstop encountering language problems again, but to their surprise, they beat K/J. They have a confessional in the late afternoon. Knowing they are in last place, K/J are joking with each other at the roadblock, then make their way to the pitstop. K/J are eliminated, but not surprised they were last after all of the time lost to trying to find the U-Turn clue. It's possible their confessional is done the following day because they look cleaned up and relaxed (Jen's hair is made up, not mashed down by her striped hat). The early arrival of T/V at the pitstop ultimately leads to T/V getting on a significantly earlier flight out of China and earlier flight to Hawaii. So much earlier that coincidentally PK and BVM are on T/V's flight. Note: PK and BVM probably had a tight schedule to begin with because of the post-pitstop interviews that had to be done, then get on the next flight out of China. Production probably thought all three teams would get bunched up on the same set of flights that occurred after PK/BVM's flights. In the end, T/V easily cruise to the finish line in first place. Don't know which team is second or third -- who are on the same set of flights. Since PK keeps referring to Margie as the Bionic Woman, it may come down to a run for second place and M/L sprint past J/C. (I'd put some or all of this in the spoiler [+] click-link, but I don't know how to format it that way) |
