Adam couldn't produce the gorgeous pure vocal tones Freddy's voice had if his life depended on it. Same goes for the also wrongful comparisons to Steve Perry. Adam has nowhere near the richness of Steve's power-rocker voice. What Adam has is some range, technique/training, showmanship, and a sorta "nice kid" general vibe. But to my ears, the sound quality of his voice overall, is very, very, ordinary. And, most of the time he comes across as someone who acts out the emotion of a song, rather than truly connects to it and lets it flow through him as he sings. I don't dislike him, but he's more of an affected, rather than affecting singer to me.

He has a powerful voice and can reach and hold notes, but it's not a rich voice like the best singers have. I think if we just heard his voice we wouldn't be blown away. If he wins, which he probably will, I think his CD is likely to be a big disappointment both commercially and artistically. Blake Lewis practically blew Jordin off the stage during the 6th season Idol tour, but his CD tanked anyway. It wasn't bad, but Blake's visual appeal simply didn't transfer well to a CD. And in some major ways Adam is a lot like Blake, though I don't think I've seen them compared before.
