Only one week left? | |||||||
|
So, they started casting for "Japanese Gameshow" - same timeframe, I would imagine. Still no word on the Mole - and by your math, ABC has about a
week to decide, right? Things are not looking good.

Eh, Paul. They don't hate you, not really. They hate the person you pretended to be in order to do well in the game, and they hate that guy so that they
don't have to think about how miserable their own lives are.
Let me tell you something, I'm a hell of a lot less famous than you are and I still have people call me names and send me e-mails over articles I wrote when I was in grad school five years ago. Of course they're going to rant. They got nothing better to do than to tear other people down in order to make themselves feel better. They can't create so they try to destroy. To be fair, this was part of your strategy in the game - tearing others down to get them to make mistakes - but you did so in the context of the game. Your acts of destruction were part of a larger act of creation (and the guys sending you harrassment e-mail probably don't get nuance.) Would I have played the same way? Probably not, but the way you play used your strengths. Every time I got a hatemail letter, I'd probably just say, "Screw you. You just wish it was you jumping over waterfalls and off bridges, dodging paintballs and riding down luges, seeing the Andes and Buenos Aires." Because that's the thing - an experience can never be taken away from you. And unlike the other saps, sitting at home, waiting for things to happen to them - you got out, off your butt, and reached for what you wanted instead of waiting for it to be handed to you. If that ain't New York, I don't know what is. |

So is this Netherlands thing ever happening?

Gotta say, I'm pretty damn excited about this. I speak no Dutch, but I was able to watch the first celeb season of Dutch mole (the episodes were streaming
online) just by reading along with the summaries provided on the previously mentioned international mole fansite. Probably one of my favorite international
Mole viewing experiences.

I've just translated the third episode, episode four and five will be done next. Maybe also the "biographies" of the candidates, if anyone is
interested in those.

Stone & Co. expanding operations
"Tim Gunn's Guide to Style" producer Stone and Co. is expanding its operations to the East Coast, tapping Sarah-Jane Cohen to open its New York office. Their expansion is good news for the show. What's interesting is they only appear to be producing shows for smaller/niche networks. |

As I mentioned previously, the deadline for announcing a summer airing of the show was the first week of February, which has come and gone. Does this mean we
won't see The Mole in 2009? Not necessarily. A September run (ala The Mole 2) is not out of the question, despite information I posted where I said that
Executive Producer Scott Stone was not a fan of having the show air in the fall. To clarify, he said this after The Mole 2.
The new deadline for an announcement? I would say the first two weeks of April. Beyond this time, I don't see a sixth season being produced this year. |

It's not because it's smarter, it's because ABC is fucking stupid and can't properly schedule and promote their shows.

Apr 2009 Updates | |||||||

So my early April deadline for announcing a new season of the show this year has passed. I would say that a fall run would be out of the question at this
point. The only hope would be for ABC to include a sixth season as a mid-season filler, but an announcement would have to be made within the next few weeks at
the latest.
In other news, TheFutonCritic.com had this to say about The Mole:
I don't know where they got the "canceled on 4/8/09" part, since no news items exist confirming this (at least none that I've found). If any of you are curious and sleuthy enough, try searching for leads that might indicate that this is true. |
