A spokesperson for the show tells TVGuide.com that Criminal Intent is in good shape, but that "based on the overall TV landscape and in this economy, it made sense to maximize the value" of the show by airing all 16 episodes in an uninterrupted run during the first quarter of 2009. Season 8 is notable for its casting changes. Chris Noth (Sex and the City), who played Det. Mike Logan, a character he originated on Law & Order, left the show after three seasons. Replacing him will be the Oscar- and Emmy-nominated actor Jeff Goldblum. Details on Det. Zach Nichols, Goldblum's character, have been minimal, and he was not scheduled to appear in the Nov. 7 premiere episode. (Typically, the CI roster includes two pairs of detectives - played this season by Goldblum and Julianne Nicholson and series vets Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe - and they alternate episodes, so this is not unusual.) Preview scenes sent to TV critics showed that Goldblum's performance departed from the stammering intellectual roles for which he is generally known (The Fly, Independence Day, The Big Chill). Law & Order: Criminal Intent is the third series in the crime-procedural franchise produced by Dick Wolf. It originally aired on NBC for six seasons, but it moved to sister netlet USA in 2007, which was widely seen as a strategy to avoid cancellation.

Report: Goldblum not mixing well at Law & Order: Criminal Intent Online report says episodes starring new star Jeff Goldblum are "terrible" and caused both delays of new season. Look into my eyes... All you *Law & Order: Criminal Intent* fans out there are probably wondering what the hold up is after USA delayed the drama's season premiere twice, the most recent coming a few days ago. The answer: The Fly. Technically, the man who played The Fly, according to a report from Fox News. Citing sources inside the Criminal Intent fortress, Fox says that new star Jeff Goldblum's character hasn't exactly been up to par. "The two episodes they have [with Goldblum] are terrible," the source reportedly said, specifically calling out the Jurassic Park star. Goldblum is taking over for departing star Chris "Mr. Big" Noth. So terrible that new producer Robert Nathan, the man who worked on Goldblum's half of the episodes (the other half stars Vincent D'Onofrio), has allegedly been axed. USA Network delayed the show in October and again this week; the program's new season was supposed to begin airing last fall, but was pushed back to early 2009 and then again to summer 2009. USA has given the same excuse for both delays: they want all 16 episodes to air without a break, which clearly makes no sense. The last season of Law & Order: Criminal Intent premiered in October 2007, but because of the writers strike, the final episode didn't air until last August.

Vincent D'Onofrio looked really good and I though the story line was solid. Guess we'll see how Goldblum does next week. Don't care for the actress playing his partner so it might be an every other week kind of thing.
