I will be REALLY pissed if that is how things turn out. It just doesn't entertain me as well as a season where a basic pagoning occurs and then the struggle for control at the F7/5/3 occurs. Simple Coach wasn't smart enough to put his Jealousy of Brendan aside long enough to eliminate enough of the other Tribe, so they wouldn't be a threat. Apparently none of these people say the season that Dani won. This is what happens when you don't completely wipe out the other side. James wasn't blindsided until Jamie/JR were both gone.

It's obvious that Stephen has the highest probability now with JT in an interesting 2nd place. But what about Taj? Yeah, she had a SHITTY first episode and was not included in any of the first impressions. However, could she have been hidden in episode 1 and be hidden behind Stephen and JT as distractions?

In important episodes, such as episode one and now the merge episode, she has low visibility and low insight. She was also super visible in episodes 2-6. Her visibility was higher than Stephen's in all of episodes 2-6 and higher than JT's in all but episode 6. This screams distraction. Also, she has been shown as a largely stagnant caricature. Her ideas never really seem to change and she's not growing as a person or a player.

She got awfully pissed when I said he was coming across as Shifty Steve in ep.6. Bashing other posters, making ad hominem atacks, pretending she is above fandom. Yes, everyone who has Erinn as #2 or #3 is just a fanboy who has the hots for her. But a women or gay man would never root against the young girls because they have a thing for hardsome Penner, or handsome Brendan, or nice boy Stephen, would they? My suggestions 1 Stop with the ad hominen attacks, it distracts from edgic and starts stupid fan wars. 2. You don't thing Erinn belongs in top 3, fine, tell us about your picks. Unless you want the thread to be full of back and forth about Erinn. PS: I find all the fandon crap especially ironic, because what's missing this season is they haven't made me care much about any of the players. I don't love or hate anyone. I loved this episode in terms of the strategic dynamics. ahhhhh. taks....i <3 u you seem to say everything i am thinking.... funny though,....as i was raking up my backyard today....I had a thought about this whole JT/Coach et al situation....specifically WHY were we shown AND told about NEW COACH? maybe it's because, unlike OLD COACH -- who got everything wrong -- NEW COACH (who is centred and grounded) gets everything right.... If there was ever an editing opportunity to screw with the viewers and to have a visual element to support it... it is now. I've been racking my brain for 2 days now to figure out how JT... who seems to be universally liked and a universal threat... makes it to the finals. And today, i saw a possible scenario for how.... Coach, for reasons both shown and actually beyond my imagination, makes it to the end, wins immunity (considering he "stepped down" with control form this last IC, looks like he actually could win an immunity or 2)... anyway.... Coach manages to scrape his way to the end, wins the final IC.... & regardless of who is left... who do you think he would pick? No matter who was left in the finals, if JT were there....Coach would pick JT (JT is the most worthy warrior). I actually think that if Coach has his way at all, JT will make it to the end....after all Coach is all about the "worthy warrior", etc. And when you combine this with Beangate...which, to me smacked of the Tom & Jenn Shower discussion from Palau.... makes me suspect that JT and Coach are our final 2. Sierra asks Coach some inane question about the beans.... Erinn, for some reason known only to her, votes for New Coach (hence the oddness of her edit). don't know if it's true, but i was trying to see the "final TC" today as my dear OTH would say.... not sure if i was terribly successful, but i'm trying....I'm trying.... eta: spelling, and to note that really.... i shouldn't be posting after having a couple of beers on my patio. Not that I think he wins, its just something to chew on given how weird the merge edit was.

I mean, the editors went out of their way to make Coach look completely wrong on multiple occasions (the most striking to me being where he says that the storm will just miss them and then the very next scene is everyone being miserable). And was "Beangate" a particularly interesting segment? No, not really... it was just added to make Coach look like an imbecile (and maybe mold Sierra/Brendan some). He could still be crazy, delusional, arrogant, eccentric Coach without being wrong.

Poor Deflection effort, and was more in the realm of projection - and it's clearly obvious you know absolutely nothing about me, to the point where it's an LOL thing. I am a fan of Stephen's edit. Period. There have been nice guys and gals in seasons past that didn't have the good edit, and I bye-bye'd them. Anthony, Austin, Ibe, all the way back to Christi, Helen, or Kathy. Erinn seems like a nice kid, but has some issues. It's her edgic that isn't good - no there there. Every week I give my top five. It's been pretty much what others say - I had Erinn as high as 4th a couple weeks ago, based on edgic. (I tried to get her to 3rd to be in Oo's Shamrocks, but darn it all I just couldn't do it.) I had Sierra on top early, then Stephen since then. I caught on to JT's rise before a lot of people here. Brendan started okay for me beginning in week 2 but is just too flat, and too unaware of what's going on. This week I finally selected Stephen as my choice. Heck, Stephen is even your first choice! . Tyson's OTT patina finally got him out of my possibles. Debbie's edgic is nada. Sierra's sank like a stone. Coach? Heh. Taj was very visible in those episodes when distraction stories are most prominent, but I like her a lot. She ain't gonna win based on edgic. Erinn? you can encapsulate her edit into: early comments, lots of greek chorus about Coach, and probably ten minutes about herself or her stuff with Joe and the HII, which came to nothing. And that's in seven episodes. Is it possible her edit might suddenly emerge and make her more edgically viable? Not really, because the game is to pick the winner now. her edit is incredibly thin stuff for edgic, and each week the thinness increases to translucence. That's all. And I did bash you because I thought your comments about Stephen had nothing to do with the edit but were anti-semitic. Maybe you didn't mean it that way, but my gosh: "Shifty" "Wily" "Distrustful" "Jew" - I sensed a pattern, and was offended, more offended than the silly RVS - Oo catfights. If you didn't intend to be anti-semitic just let us know and we can both put away the long knives.

Mostly edgic, some fun thoughts, and yes, I'm hanging in there, but just had the short sale offer on my house fall apart and still don't know what I'm going to do, but hey, pressure smessure. After I watch my daughter in her church play on Sunday and get back, I hope to have the wherewithall to get back and do ratings and contribute. A few of you sent personal notes. I will answer them all soon. This is the general, "I'm okay" message for all. The merge and episodes forth plays with your soul. Didn't it feel like soooo much in this episode threw everything you learned in the first half on its ear? Okay, so the first half, the setup, was all for nothing? Don't you believe it. All the points known come back. Stephen wins. Insight and every decision for him has weight. Real weight. I've felt in watching (without doing ratings mostly this season, still working on that, sorry guys) that the turn moment is explaining how Stephen gets rid of JT. Now I see it. JT partnered with the devils Coach and Tyson, and Stephen simply has to bury his friend. And in the end, he earns JT's vote. And when he has to make that choice we see it all, through Stephen's thought process. Sierra is facing the jury in a F3 (or F2 or F4 whatever). So many unnecessary comments about her when they don't need to be inserted are really adding up. Erinn outlasts Coach and Tyson. That's been clear for a long time. Taj falls short, but the alliance she first constructed, by working over Brendan, getting the clue, and forming the alliance, does come out on top. But it's the two add ons that finish ahead. Cue "Wrapped Around Your Finger" by the Police for more insight there. Coach votes for Sierra, and earns this year's "Coby Archa Award." Nothing he does ever works out. He's called new coach and in this episode the great plan for ousting Brendan...fails to work out. Par for the course. He'll never get it right. The merge ep was a great example of keeping JT and Coach in front of Stephen, but showing how Stephen's path in full of obstacles he has to overcome. He was the only secret alliance memeber to initially show skepticism and the only one who never got a confessional about its invincibility. For a reason. Joe, knowing a merge could happen, leaves an idol behind, fake or not. Dumb dumb dumb. Non edgic - how did Tyson, with bare feet, beat Debbie, with shoes on? That hurt my feet watching him! Damn. Debbie's theme song intro, eyes closed and smiling, is among my favorite intros ever - if I were ever on, I'd want something like that. Too bad she's superfluous. She got in with a younger group and got in, and has their trust. Awesome job, but didn't work out here. Edgic works on prior editing patterns. I feel really confident with Stephen, and hopefully it's because it makes sense, and they don't again get a player who fights hard to get to face the jury, then ensures she can't win by wanting people who can beat her there. No wonder Bob made no sense, Sugar didn't either. This season feels normal. Everyone wants to win. I never cared for complex tribe, but if you do, consider that it could be the secret alliance tribe pre merge. Or not. Or ignore it. It's easier! :-) Allison...man, I'd pay to see her live...wait, that's American Idol, sorry, wrong forum. If I had to predict the season, in complete, non-edgic fashion, Coach goes next week, as the secret four lose JT but pull in Erinn, thus creating a majority alliance. Tyson goes. Then blindside Brendan before JT, Stephen's wrenching decision. Debbie. F4 who has to relieve Taj, too much a threat to win, then a F3 of Erinn, Sierra and Stephen. So now I've sealed Stephen's fate, and a Sierra win. Oh well. I'm sure I forgot something but there's more to come from me soon enough so bye for now. Remember, the first half of the season, when Edgic does its work, counts. It isn't discounted post merge, it's covered up so casual fans get surprised. Don't let yourself be sucked in. Even in Gabon, we knew Bob should stick with original Kota and he'd sail through, and in the end, he did. So what do you know you know from pre merge? That's where your concentration should lie. No reviewers in the media, no casual fans, hell... even most sucksters hate his guts. He's a character, but one whose win could completely decimate an otherwise good season of Survivor. I don't think the editors would be willing to make that trade. OTH, tons of great points there. I don't even know where to start. Stephen does seem to be the best on-paper Edgic pick. He's got all the right kinds of statements, ties and development a winner should have. However, I don't think we've seen any reason for Stephen to get rid of JT. Any sin JT has committed by dealing with the devil, Stephen has committed equally at this point. It'd be hard for the editors to rationalize Stephen booting JT on this basis, I think. If JT goes, I have to believe it is in some sort of blindside to both JT and Stephen. Stephen has not give the same sort of confessionals about using JT as he has given towards others, like Taj, the Exile Alliance, and Tyson/Coach. If you look back, Stephen is always concerned for himself but generally seems grateful that JT is on his side. They have (or the editors would like us to believe, I'm not really sure) a solid friendship. Hell, on more than one occasion Stephen has genuinely looked to JT for help. I don't know where I'm going with this actually... I just feel like the JT/Stephen relationship is different. And yeah... Allison is a ridiculous talent.

So at F4 or F5 I could see this happening. But as soon as OTH suggests? They are each other's lifeline right now. Re Erinn, one of the things I was most curious about was the sort of move she was going to make at the merge. One of her more interesting statements was when she said she doesn't like anyone on her tribe etc. So we saw her and Joe, and some mutterings about the HII... what was her reaction to his departure? We didn't see it. I really did want more from her (like I wanted more from Sierra.) One of the better aspects of S18 over its predecessor was the strategic thinking of a lot of people remaining in the game, whether it was smart, dumb, naive, or stupid. Erinn's was a "wait and see" strategy, and we're all still waiting. Sierra's just glommed onto Brendan.

Coach & Tyson seem to be in love with JT...Debbie likes both of them but would probably vote accorrding to Tyson's direction, Erinn seems to think JT is funny and has good word on him from her only ally, Joe... don't know about Brendan or Sierra (would assume Stephen from the EA thing but you never know), and Taj... well, i feel like Taj would vote for whom ever didn't screw her over.... at any rate i'm already at a likely 4 for JT, not counting a possible Taj vote. I think a JT/Stephen F2 would be FANTASTIC!!!! and i think it could really go either way... a la Yul /Ozzy.... with the difference being that JT is actually being shown to be a little smarter/strategic than Ozzy (JT is the one who zeroed in on the splitting the votes first, he also got the confessionals on finding the cracks in the Tibira tribe). without a doubt i could see this F2, and i think it could go either way.... here's hoping!!!

My little insight into reading this is that the setup for Stephen turning on JT is there, onscreen, and been slowly building, ever so quietly. We know that every relationship Stephen has made has come with his caveat of realizing its importance to his game. While JT has been a lifeline, he won't be when Stephen reconstructs the secret alliance and JT won't break from his word or his newfound interest in Coach. It's going to leave Stephen with no choice but side with Brendan, and everntually removing JT. Hey, 50/50, can be wrong, it just feels like that's a slow build coming. While they might be sidekicks, JT already (albeit jokingly) said he's going to hell, now he's among the devils, and Stephen won't join him. This isn't Tom and Ian, this is Tom and Gregg. But with a cattle rancher hot for a soccer coach instead of a business man hot for a blonde. But hey, it ain't like I've taken notes. I'm done this season mostly on feel, and so far, everything we're at is to that scenario I've thought made sense. Really the two things I feel least confident about are exactly what happens with Brendan and what exact role Erinn plays. We'll see. I watched the entire pre-marge last week (saving them all to DVD in one fell swoop after not having time or heart all season long) and the setup is a nice slow build. They overused Taj for no reason, and that eliminates her, beyond the Edgic basics of episode 1 issues and this last one at the merge. Technically, some of the visibility with Sierra and Brendan was necessary in telling the real story and the edited story both, but the way it came down knocks them both out, but I think casual fans think they have a great chance to win. (Or did with Brendan, if fans really trust that Coach is all that...) So we'll see. If I get a quarter or more right, I'm lucky. If not, this was my off season and I erase it from the databank, along with failing to pick Aras and for the bad coin flip of Alexis instead of Parvati. Michael

Also, JT as the alpha male has been overemphasized. Stephen is older and likely like an older brother to JT. He's not going to betray JT when JT will follow his every word like little brothers do. I may be reading in way too deep but there is nothing that suggests to me that Stephen would betray JT. He likely gave confessionals saying he would if he had to, but we've only seen confessionals indicating that JT is off limits for him. Stephen is a strategist, don't get me wrong, but it's not gonna happen. I will eat my words if it does, but I'm 99.9% sure.

It was the episode he was exiled with Brendan. Stephen is the only member of the EA that we specifically saw not putting all his eggs in the EA basket. Just like Parvati was the only one we saw pre-merge not putting all her eggs in the Couples+Cirie basket.... hmmm.... All of this said, Stephen is still my winner pick. I feel so stupid for picking Sierra pre-merge. I rewatched the newest episode tonight and it's so obvious... Stephen wins. IMO there aren't even any other contenders. My prediction for next boot.... Tyson. In a 5-4. Exile Alliance + JT takes him down. That's not to say the Coach/Debbie/Tyson alliance will be pagonged. But the scenario Tyson/Coach/Debbie likely want (Brendan gone, then Taj) is impossible since a Brendan ouster would lead to Taj playing the idol at the next council as far as they know.... they were not thinking when they abandoned the pagonging strategy. Has anyone ever won an individual immunity like Tyson did and NOT be able to ever use it at TC to prevent a vote-off? ncassaro's speculation that tyson would go next would imply that he'd have to give up his immunity necklace right before the next IC... but it never saved him! He never really got to use it at TC. Yeah, Joe left, and I supposed Jeff could technically say that the II is good for one boot, whether the boot is voluntary or a vote at TC. Nevertheless, it would suck for Tyson to not enjoy the sense of safety at a TC. He won immunity, and could never enjoy it at TC. BTW, Tyson was so right to go barefoot at that last challenge. Unless your shoe has a peculiar instep, chances are you'd have a hard time keeping a shoe in the little slots on the poles. I looked closely, and those slots were not squared off - they were rounded. I suspect most shoe insteps would want to slide right off. Your foot's instep would probably work a lot better, grip it better - this is why most people were holding on primarily with their hands/fingers rather than their feet - except for Tyson.
