It doesn't matter how many links you post to him singing fabulously in the low range or being perfectly sweet, natural and humble in interviews when people have made up their mind as to what he is. I challenged one of the haters to point me to one televised moment where Adam is acting smug and arrogant and of course they can't do it. I just hope he picks up the Matt, Lil & Anoop fans when they go because if those votes go to Chokey, our boy could be in trouble. |

Welcome to my world. Clay's fans have been living with the unfair bashing for 6 years. You mean like the fact that he was a constant liar for years when everyone but the most delusional knew without a shadow of a doubt that he was gay? Yeah, totally an unfair bashing there. As for Adam's "televised" douche-moments...I see them every episode. In his outfits, to his screaming -- thinking that even qualifies as a good performance -- to pointing out that no one else had received a standing "O" from Simon. Thank you, Ms. Lambert, Simon made a big enough (yet ridiculous) gesture. No need for you to remind America again. It got you the voting points that you'll desperately need to catch up from your hideous personality. Not to mention his eye-fucking of the camera performance after performance. How is that not televised arrogance? And have any of you people ever met someone like Adam? I really don't care if I'm generalizing, but drag queens are almost necessarily rude, arrogant fucks. Because they build up that aura to prevent insults from slowing them down. I've yet to meet someone like him who wasn't a dickface. So...whatever. I'd normally be thrilled America was getting behind a gay person (no pun intended)... but the fact that it's one like Adam is repulsive to me. The only thing he accomplishes by being out on this show is to confirm to right-wing America that all gays like drag and make-up. And that's a dangerous slope. Yes! In the love thread, so bring on the flames :P |

His masculinity and sexuality so easily threatened by a little eye shadow, a love of costuming and a flair for the dramatic.
Can't be easy being a 23 year old college student in the South having doubts about your manhood. Go pull your pud to pictures of supermodels, watch a baseball game while drinking brewskis with the guys and sexually harass a few coeds at the student union and your manhood will be restored. For at least a day or two.

Why is it that whenever someone on AI shows confidence and showmanship it's labeled as arrogance?
And be careful what you generalize about right-wing America. One can be conservative in their voting habits, and still love a "flamboyant"
entertainer/performer. Don't you realize republicans know gay people and have gay friends that are not "out there"? You know, gays that are
attorneys, accountants, nurses, teachers, etc. But whatever, this is not a political thread.

reggierules wrote:::Sticking my fingers in my ears:: La La La La La La La La Just because you've" yet to meet someone like him who wasn't a dickface" is as much of a generalization as Adam "confirming to right wing America that all gays like drag and makeup" I am not seeing the arrogance from him that you are, I see a guy with a killer voice and sweet personality, who is totally self aware, with the love and support of his family. It's not too late Reggie, there is plenty of room on the Adam bandwagon. Hop on! |

Reggie attacks almost everyone and everything at some point so don't take it personally y'all. It's a badge of honour to be flammed by Reggie
because it means you did something good. If Reggie hates someone or something, I know I'm on a good path and makes me love Adam even more. :)

Adam probably won't win, because when it comes to the final 2, the ANTI and the PRO contestant votes come into play (which they do not in the earlier
rounds).
Remember when Clay @@%$! competed, he was getting more than half the votes from his rabid fan base at the beginning, and by midway, he was ahead of his nearest competition by 2:1 according to any online poll you could find. But in final 2, the people who really didn't get his whole broadwaystyle flamboyant singing will vote for whoever else is a finalist. For Adam, it will be worse, and sometime before the final 4, all the flamboyantly gay youtube videos and stuff will be heavily talked about (probably from those campaigning for Gokey), and Christian web sites, etc. will get into the act, so all the silently intolerant types will have an excuse to vote against him in the final 2 as well. So in the end, in the final 2, all the "I really don't get this Clay/Adam guy's singing at all..." viewers are going to vote for the other girl. I think Adam will make the final 2. But he'll probably lose there. Could even happen final 3. Fantastic vocal instrument though. Too bad his performances come off a tad affected and studied. I wonder if he's a method actor. Wish he'd pour his actual soul into the singing and it would be a lot more moving. |

reggierules wrote: Totally unfair. When did Adam come out again? He is as silent about it as Clay was, only he isn't getting bashed for it. It used to be that the haters would say Clay didn't deserve to have fans because he was gay. Now Adam gets the open minded treatment and if you don't like the gay guy there's something wrong with you. Nobody is born "out" and nobody has the right to decide when anyone comes out, I'm certainly not criticizing Adam, but the inequity is what pisses me off. If it takes years to be ready to come out then it takes years, so fuck off reggie with your stupid thing about Clay lied for years. He said his private life is none of your business and he was right. As for Adam's "televised" douche-moments...I see them every episode. Thank you, Ms. Lambert, Simon made a big enough (yet ridiculous) gesture. No need for you to remind America againn Both Kelly and Clay received standing Os from Simon so Adam wasn't the first. |

It was a Fox Newscast - I posted the video right after you asked (previous page)! I remembered it from the Tati thread - it caused a bit of angst, Adam being
mean to her.

RobbinAmber wrote:You can't put Adam and Clay (from when he was on the show) in the same category when it comes to their sexual orientations. I don't recall it being discussed as heavily at the time, but Clay went on denying he was gay. There is a huge difference between denying you're gay and not mentioning you're gay. Adam has never denied it. I believe he is out, but not in your face about it. If you listen to the studio recording (which is longer than on TV) of "Tracks of My @$#$%," Adam changes the lyrics. Most of the times, when people change lyrics on the show, it's gender-based. If a girl is singing a song that was originally sung about a girl, they change the lyrics to "him," "he," etc. In Smokey's version, the line is "Since you left me if you see me with another girl." Adam changes it to"Since you left me if you see me with somebody else." I don't think he's going to change that if he's not comfortable with his sexuality. While I agree that Clay had every right to choose for himself, I believe Adam is at a place (and has been based on his video this past week) where he is much more comfortable with his sexual orientation than Clay was while he was on the show. As for the studio versions, I like his performance of "Tracks of My @$#$%" from the show more, without the music accompanying it. "Mad World" is fantastic, though. And gab, I think he dissed Tatiana during an interview after group 2 in the semis. It wasn't on the actual show. And add me to the listening to Mad World over and over club (both from the show and studio version). |

You can't put Adam and Clay (from when he was on the show) in the same category when it comes to their sexual orientations. I don't recall it being discussed as heavily at the time, but Clay went on denying he was gay. Sure you can. Adam is a few years older than Clay was in 2003, by the time Clay was 26 he was out to family, friends, his band, backups and crew. Clay only denied it once in Rolling Stone right after season2. After that he only said that it wasn't anyone's business. |

RobbinAmber wrote:I'm talking about in terms of them being out and appearing comfortable with their sexuality while being on the show. Obviously, yes, Clay was younger when he was on than Adam is now, but (and this is just my opinion) Adam appears to have always been comfortable with who he is. Like you said before, it takes people different amounts of time to become comfortable. It appears Adam has always been there, at least in terms of during his time on the show. |

Adam is openly gay, and just like people don't go around announcing they are straight all the time, Adam doesn't need to "announce" he's gay. I would think the myriad of pics of him all over the internet kissing men would pretty much be a dead giveaway. When we FINALLY get to a point where people just don't give a fuck, I will be so happy. Comparing him to Clay is unfair. If someone came out and asked Adam in an interview, i'm sure he'd have no problem saying he's gay and i'm sure it will happen. Why it's even as issue is beyond me. And he puts a ton of emotion in his songs, people are just trying to find reasons to hate him. It's unfortunate..

Taniwha Is Waiting wrote: Thanks Taniwha. I skipped over the video when you posted it before because I had seen it a while back... but the Tati diss didn't register with me then because I hadn't seen her before the Top36 groups. Mystery solved. The funny part is (and why I wanted to see the dis) I downloaded the San Francisco audition episode to watch recently, and when Tatiana was doing her prom queen shtick by the window, there's Adam in the background sitting 2 chairs away watching the whole thing. I guess her act got old after having seen it for 6 months... and there's that "no filter" thing he said he's got going on too. |
