Well thanks, asshole. Is Lil a relative since you seemed to take that so personally.
You actually think she's good? Seriously? |

Let me expand a bit on my Trenyce comparisons. I think there's some important similarities between Lil and Trenyce in many areas: singing, looks, and
personality. Without overstating things (though I can't resist pointing out there's a good chance Lil may ALSO finish in 5th place), I do think that
Lil resembles Trenyce more than any other previous contestant.
I didn't exactly dislike Trenyce, but she was definitely one of my least favorite black female singers from the finals (I've liked most of them a lot). I thought Trenyce's voice and song selections were just okay--not bad, just very generic R&B. Her voice lacked any distinctive style--I'd have to rewatch my tapes to say much about it aside from her infamous problems with diction ("like murder, like breasts, like Wayne.") She wasn't bad looking, but there was a scary intensity about her that I found off-putting. She'd obviously had a hard life (yes, I know about the shoplifting) and she seemed to have a hard time relaxing when she was on the show. Basically, she was a run of the mill contestant who seemed like she had a chip on her shoulder. Lil is a lot like this, albeit with a shakier voice and worse taste in music. She is okay looking but not pretty, can sing but falls way short of having a great voice, and it's hard to like or care about her. Her tastes in music seem limited to black singers and her song selections have been generic. She has professional level volume and can reach and hold high notes, but has trouble keeping her tone consistent. She also has a lot of trouble with low notes and low volume--it's obvious that she has no interest or skill in doing ballads. She seems a bit nicer than Trenyce, but she lacks any real charm. Like so many other contestants this year she has no use for the judges, talks back to them, and ignores their advice. Her chief advantages are being the only black left and her cute kids. Her chief disadvantages are: 1) she was pimped like crazy until the last two weeks. When sucksters are force-fed a relatively mediocre singer, they WILL get pissed; 2) she likes hip-hoppish contemporary R&B singers like Mary J Blige, who I can't stand; and 3) to a greater extent than Trenyce, she lacks any kind of personal style. She's just doing Karaoke versions of whoever she covers. |

I have never posted here before but after seeing her reaction from being in B3, I hate her a bit now.

As to this thread, I think Lil has been compared to almost every black female. I do not find any of the comparisons. I think we should try harder and compare her to a male or a non-black female. How about Carly? |

I also think it sucks that the judges keep giving her the back and forth when it comes to critiques. First they want her to go all Mary J. then she does then they tell her she didn't go out of her comfort zone, then she does, then they tell her she should go Mary J again. Bullshit. If this is about going out of your comfort zone, why don't they ever call out Allison for rocking out every song, or Kris for making everything and acoustic Jason Mraz/John Mayer rip off. |

Even you can't believe that Lil has done anything " all Mary J." since the semi finals. I've actually enjoyed a few things she did since the
Top 13, but mostly because she was completely un-herself. Well, actually just one, country week. But anyway...yeah...the judges haven't been inconsistent
with her. They've constantly told her the same thing, and she's been unable to do what they've told her. Now, whether or not she should do what they want is another issue all together. I personally get really annoyed when the judges tell these people who
they are. Like Matt, for instance. I think he knows his musical-preferences more than the judges...but whatever.

8trackmind wrote:I agree with almost 100% of this. Very nice analysis of her voice. Though I think slightly less of her "professional volume", because she sounds thin on those big notes, and they don't have any richness or flavor at all... when we're talking about the "top" divas, I want to here some magic when they belt, I want a little chill down my spine. She can't do that on her best day. In fact there's no part of her range that sounds particularly great to me. Nothing that makes me grin and say "I wish I could somehow make a sound like that..." (e.g. Adam or Allison in their sweet spot). And despite having an attractive face, something about her is just extremely dumpy and non-sexy. I think it's a subtle attitude thing, her shape and how she walks (she's not fat, but the particular slope of her pear-shape and her walk suggest future or past mega-obesity). I think it's probably more her aura and attitude that make her unsexy though. If she worked in the office, she's somebody I'd respect, but not really want to spend time around. A hint of anger seething under there too. |

And I like Allison, but there isn't anything remarkable about her voice either. She's Pink Jr. |

Re Drew B's comment about Lil and Trenyce not looking alike: you're right, they don't look like each other and I'm sorry if I implied they did.
Trenyce had no figure, Lil may have too much of a figure. Trenyce had huge eyes, Lil's are small. My point was that both of them are average looking.
Dcartist put it very nicely: there's something dumpy and non-sexy about Lil. Drew B did make a good point that Lil covered a Celine Dion song. Oops, I
forgot about that! I also agree with the comment that we CAN compare Lil to other Idol contestants besides black females. Very true. I've sometimes made
the point that people were busy comparing Jordin to Mantasia, Jennifer, Tamyra, etc. when it seemed obvious to me that the contestant she most resembled
vocally was Diana DeGarmo. But in Lil's case, I just don't happen to see any relevant white or male contestants to compare her to. Finally, I
completely agree that Nadia was a rock (& pop) singer, not an R&B one.

Every freaking week the judges repeat the "we know you can sing" BS and I am still waiting for the proof of this statement.CO SIGN. After 8 seasons, this shouldn't be acceptable. If the judges know that she can sing...why can't we hear it? |
