Story Arcs Promo footage shows the feast on something looking like a sandbar in water. We were given that the merged tribe begins to scheme immediately and new alliances form and old ones crumble. Jalapao - enters the merge down 2 Joe: Erinn's exile clues lead him right to the fake idol that Taj had made (with materials from Stephen). He was shown to be unquestioning that it could be a fake idol. His injured knee/red leg was again shown last episode, worse than before. He and Erinn must be the "exile pair" that make a "shocking discovery" per the press release. They may discover only that the timbira hii is in someone else's' possession (Brendan, Sierra) or perhaps Erinn is shown the real hii by Brendan to gain her cooperation. Since the "pair" made the shocking discovery, I think that Joe will be told his is fake. His only connection now is with Erinn, and to a lesser extent former Jalapao leader JT. He respects and considers himself a competitor for JT, and he has voted at least twice now to oust Taj. No matter, I think Joe's injury may be how his story arc ends, weather med-evacuated or not.JT: The last episode was big for JT, and he accidentally finds Stephen's hii while looking for a bag to take fishing. (what luck!) Taj had already talked to Stephen about showing the idol to JT. Taj, Stephen and JT form a power triangle going into the merge. After they join hands on their pact…Taj says "We're going to the Merge together!" …and is corrected by Stephen saying "We're going to the end." JT may need to think on that exchange of words. JT is a challenge threat, an obvious threat to Timbira players. He has tribal connections to Joe, but unlike the other two, no connections to any Timbira member. Joe did tell Erinn that "JT was a good guy" when discussing their favorites. This could suggest even when Joe is gone, Erinn looking for a merge alliance could choose to approach JT. JT's story arc is gaining complexity yet as I mentioned earlier, I think his story will be tied to Taj when the merged team is down in numbers. JT seems not to have grasped that even though Taj has promised to "lend" the idol to JT if he ever needs it, it is Stephen that is in possession of the idol.Stephen: Stephen has to be quick on his feet when JT says he's discovered the idol at camp. JT believes Stephen's cover story, and is shown to be trusting (maybe too trusting). Stephen cleverly regained sole possession of the hii by suggesting the three now aware of it on Jalapao keep it in his dress pants pocket. I assume this is the pants that ripped out the seat seam during the first trek to camp. Stephen has pointed out to JT that possession is 10/10th of the law in terms of the immunity idol, and they are shown contemplating voting off Taj to give us doubts about her longevity. At some point, Stephen perhaps together with Taj has to decide whether to remain loyal to whoever remains of the original cross-tribe alliance, or to JT and whoever (Erinn?) else JT has teamed up with. Stephen has the most connections to anyone in the game so far..to Brendan, Sierra and Taj through the CTA, and to Stephen and Taj through their pact, and even to Jalapao Joe by birth tribe and through Joe's association with her to Erinn. That is a lot of connections for someone on a tribe entering the merge down in numbers. A lot. Could he end up sitting before jury at the end? I think so. If not, it will be because of his lack of transparency to Taj and to JT.Taj: Taj found the immunity idol after helping form the CTA. She seems unconcerned that she gave it to Stephen for "safe keeping." In fact, she's sort of given it to him twice. I think she's underestimated the bond between her chosen partner, Stephen, and JT. We have heard through the press release that "old alliances will crumble" with the merge, and the possibility that Taj will be blindsided is in the viewer's mind. She has connections with Brendan and Sierra from the other tribe, and Stephen and JT from her own tribe. Since her name keeps appearing on tribal council votes, she must not consider Joe a friend at this point. At the merge, I would think Taj would use the cross-tribal alliance to suggest Joe go , if she feels in danger herself and Joe still there. I confess I am a fan of Taj, and I hold my breath when she has to be at tribal council. That must be just what the story writers want us to do. Her story arc could be nearly done, or not. Timbira: enters the merge 6 strong. Well, maybe.Ben : Uber Villain. I like the insight of someone in edgic who said Ben was a vehicle of contradiction. What he says does not match what he does. What he confidently predicts will happen does not happen. He treats others as their superior without cause. He elevates himself in his own mind. I would have run rending my clothes and pulling my hair if I had to spend a night in the same shelter. But, he does make for great drama, and if we needed some villain to hate…they have given him a story arc and an edit guaranteed for us to root against Ben. I can't believe he is still there, but since he is, I suspect he'll go a long way. I just hope we get to hear some well-deserved flaming when he goes.Brendan : Brendan is on the tribe with more inner-tribal conflict, ,and with the open Alpha male rivalry between Ben and less-willing Brendan. Brendan would be content to have fun, and let the original cross-tribe alliance work its magic at the merge. Brendan's story has not been as eventful as it might have been construed were he a major end-player, in my opinion. He's smart, he's successful, he's easy to get along with. He's strategic in that he formed the cross-tribal alliance early. I think we are supposed to wonder if he sticks with the Timbira original tribe voting early in the merge, since they have the numbers. I expect a confrontation when Erinn discovers no idol where the exile clues pointed her at Timbira's old camp. We have seen Sierra calling some out in the "future episodes" clip after the recap. I think this next episode will be happy at the feast, and then very shortly we'll see not only strategy scrambling, but Brendan and Sierra questioned by Erinn about Brendan's idol. Even the title "Dragon Slayer" and Jeff's comment about "granola boy" lead us to believe Brendan will be in trouble next episode. So, though I think Brendan will be in trouble soon, maybe not just yet. He has connections to Taj, Stephen, Sierra, and on a casual tribal basis possibly Erinn and even Debbie or Tyson. It would be pivotal if he should cast his vote against a Cross-tribal alliance member while old Timbira still has numbers. I don't think he will do that, but maybe.Debra: We've not seen a lot of strategy from Debra at all. She seems to be playing a very good social game, and she also seems fairly immune to Ben's awfulness, and to be very content to ride Ben's coat tails and do his bidding. I bet she was the one that cheerfully scrubbed out the charcoal mess from the kettle where Ben burned the beans. She has ties with Tyson, possibly with Sierra, and I think she might outlast Tyson, Brendan, and possibly even Ben. Likeable as she is, her social game and story arc may end when there are no more "expendable" players after the merge.
Erinn: Erinn has been the "outsider" on her tribe, with few real connections there. She has been a narrator for the "Ben is a bad guy" story, and she's the current "cancer" on his list. We were shown she's biding her time until the merge. The sort-of alliance she made at Exile with Joe probably won't mean much as I don't see Joe lasting. She could have kept the clue to herself, but then the "fake idol" hidden at Jalapao may have played out differently. I think the exile trip will be important to Erinn in that she'll "have a pretty good idea" of who has the Timbira Hii when she discovers nothing (or a fake we weren't shown) at Timbira's tree mail. That may send her to Brendan, or the JT, who could choose to include her in an alliance. That might also be how she eventually outlasts Tyson, or even Coach. I still see her story arc as a necessary player either joining with JT et al or with Brendan to oust Tyson and even eventually Coach. Her story arc for me has not been developed enough to consider her a winner, though others would disagree. I think rather, that her survival, and her vote, will be key to someone elses' win. I reserve the right to back peddle on Erinn's chances after this next episode.Sierra : I think Sierra should be given a medal for putting up with Ben this long. I think how I would act and how I shut down when someone in a position of authority behaves as badly and condescendingly as Ben has, and I consider the "Ben treatment" explaining a lot of Sierra's (and Erinn's) sulky expressions and lack of enthusiasm. Sierra has survived this long, and I think she's going a long way, even to the very end. Will she take Ben with her as a goat? I think possibly she could. It would be great irony for Ben's "iron sharpens iron" worthy opponent stuff, and for the "overcoming first impressions" theme. Sierra has former-Timbira tribe connections with Debbie, Erinn, Ben and Tyson. She has the CTA with tribe mate Brendan, and with Taj and Stephen. That is more connections than anyone but Stephen. And so far, she's not been deceptive to her alliance members.Tyson: I've listed these alphabetically, but just had the thought that I "saved the best for last." Tyson is presented as a "disinterested" player. Not concerned who leads the tribe, he wasn't paying attention. But we've seen him very key in a number of Timbira challenge wins, and his outrageous behavior he intends to be "comic relief." With Ben around, I am grateful for comic relief from Tyson. He has connections only with Ben and Debbie that are apparent to me, and they are not of a trusting kind. I would not be surprised at all if he went lickety-split to another alliance if he identified one as viable. If Tyson has more game than we've been shown, it needs to be shown very soon. I don't think he'll last long after the merge, his arc of entertainment will be over. Too bad.

The Major Theme/Relationship is... | ||
|
Boiling everything down to one major theme, I think it is simply stated Stephen and JT's story. Their's despite the lack of numbers for their
team...caused by JT's stubborness to give up the slingshot...but no one held that against him, except maybe Joe, who's going to the hospital VERY
soon...
This season is gonna be the story of JT&Stephen. Will they be the Final 2? They could be. Against all odds. And is will Stephen betray JT's trust or vice versa. I think it's all going to come down to that in the end game, as preposterous as it may seem right now. The two may totally save each other as Stephen told JT "to the end." That's my main story arc and I'm stickin' to it... |

Agreed. To me, he's too OTT and ridiculous to be considered a real villain to me.

Great post, mahdoo.
I think Brendan, Erinn, Sierra and Stephen are the ones that need to be watched, in terms of winning. And to me, the major theme has already been told to us so many times. It's first impressions, and the changing/lack of changing of these first impressions. It can be applied to quite a few people, and all of the four listed above with the exception of Brendan, probably. |

First impressions would most closely deal with Sierra since she was 'voted out' in episode 1, yet she's lasted to the merge. Erinn's had the
outsider storyline and how Tyson had first impressions of her, and much of Stephen's 'first impression' storyline deals with his relationship with
JT (and some commentary about Sydney.) Brendan's first impressions deal mainly with Coach (Coach telling Brendan his strategy in Ep. 1, Coach saying he
believes Brendan's lie at TC.)

Just a FYI
The episode where Tyson and Coach commented on Brendan - Tyson had a confessional where he said that Brendan created relationships with this other tribe and that is dangerous, Tyson was buffomatic in that confessional - I had watched it over the weekend and it was pretty obvious. So they pulled that from the merger episode probably which makes sense since the two groups are merging and Tyson probably had a confessional about it. For them to take it out of consequence and stick it in an episode where nothing happened (and hasn't been mentioned since) seems important - why go to the trouble of buffomatic'ing Tyson's buff for that confessional quite a few episodes before it actually happened? Something is going to go down with this and probably soon. |

Which brings us to coach proclaiming himself the "dragon slayer" and patting himself on the back for his "brilliance." Usually when Coach
does/says something like that, it blows up in his face.
While Tyson/Coach may suspect Brenden's connections with Taj/Stephen (and by extension JT) they don't know about the secret alliance. My guess is that Coach (who believes that by eye contact alone, he can direct peoples actions) will hatch a plan with Tyson to take out Brenden. It will (of course) include Joe... However, to guarantee it will work then need at least 5 people. Debbi would be #4. So obviously they would need at least one other person. I would suspect that Coach tries to pull in Sierra who will spill her guts to the CTA. All the plotting will be a moot issue when Joe gets medi-vac'ed out. BUT not to be put off, I see Coach pursuing this by approaching another player. I suspect this time it is Erinn, who will also give a "heads-up" to Brenden.... leading to the blind-side of either Coach or Tyson. I would say it is definitely Coach but I somehow think that of the two players, Coach and Tyson, Tyson is viewed as the most dangerous. It will not be ltoo long after that happens when Coach makes the walk of shame. |

Wouldn't Ben try to approach JT? Cause he's male and buff and attractive (not in a sexual way)? Does everyone on Timbira know JT and former-exilee
Stephen are buds? Ben/Tyson/Debbie, then tries to pull in Joe/JT, leaving out the weak people (Erinn) and the fraternizers (Brendan/Sierra/Taj/Stephen)?

I'm going to do one story arc and that is for Tyson because he wins (I reserve
the right to look incredibly sad should this not happen) and I have to start at the beginning because I haven't done one all season I don't
think.
This arc is brought to you from carefully watching the edit, Tyson quotes and my blatant favouritism. Episode 1: (Probst): first impressions are already forming (Erinn-Tyson) <~~~~ the theme Tyson: The younger brunette, she comes off to me as kinda being the bitch Tyson is in Gabon Bob's confessional spot. Tyson is gonna love that Erinn is the bitch, she's gonna get all the blame for what he does. (Probst): They come from different walks of life Tyson is (also in Gabon Bob's spot) shown after Carolina (first out) (Probst): first vote and one person from each tribe is not gonna make this journey - Sierra with half of tyson behind her...then you don't see him for a bit When writing the votes and showing who was voted for on both tribes you see everybody's face at some stage except for Tyson. Tyson is hidden behind Sierra and when they did a wide shot of the whole tribe he is completely hidden behind Probst (and you can only see half of Debbie, so she's at the end too). Surprise Winner! Also interesting...when Sandy had to head on over to the mat they showed a close up of Carolina (first out). When Sierra has to head on over to the mat now the voting is over we finally see Tyson's face in close up no less (WINNER!). This is the second time they've shown him after Carolina (if you ignore Sierra getting her grumpy mug in the way, of course). When on the trek coach says "iron sharpens iron baby" they show a close up of Tyson smiling (I'm not that into reaction shots, but what the hell...it's Tyson) When they arrive at camp Tyson says: "Watch out for those holes, try and step over 'em I guess". You guess correctly, my son, winner!!!! (I'm starting to feel like Oo) His naked scene :
Being from Utah, you'd think I'd be a shirt and tie (no pants!) nerdy glasses but I'm
probably not the stereotypical morman. I'm probably more of a free spirit (Okay this is not gonna be pretty). Having somebody that can make you laugh in an environment
like this where everybody's dirty and tired...I think people appreciate that (winner votes!!!)(you can look if
you want) (Sierra: It's your show Tyson) but when it
comes down to it I want that million dollars exotic expensive furs on my shoulder, jewels on these pretty fingers we're talking big time. I'll wear
a Tiara, a man Tiara, do they make those?
Tyson is not going to stick to a solid alliance to the end because of his free spiritedness ergo it won't be pretty (aka "What he said") Episode 2: "Everyone has their strengths and their weaknesses, you just have to do what makes the team stronger" and he will come the merge, do what makes his position stronger "We need to keep the strongest happiest tribe we can" and he'll keep them happy while he does it! Episode 3:
"One word to describe Coach..I think that's it, Coach. You know, he's not always the best at what he's coaching but he
thinks he knows the most. He likes his voice to be heard which is what we all want and need (lmao!). You know what, when he told me I was, like, his
assistant coach more power to me, you know. But he has a little school boy crush on me people see that, he loves me you know so if I just keep plugging away I'll eventually make coach, he may promote me I don't know if I'll have my own team or will
be co-coach or whatever but people are gonna start calling me that. I'm actually gonna demand it. If we ever get put on seperate tribes in this
game I will demand that the other tribe calls me coach too."
Also does that blindside speech about crushing people's dreams, heaps of blindsides, winner!!!! "If we can all focus and get together we can flip flop pretty fast." Tyson will flip flop to his win and keep people happy while he's doing it. Episode 7: JT: I think I got it (or something) Tyson: I'll come over and do it if you want They stopped showing the smart arse Tyson and showed the challenge monster for a change...he's not just here for laughs! Like Joe couldn't hit the fruit pits and JT outlasts him, JT couldn't hit the target and Tyson WINS! Now I know I sound like I'm being silly but my blatant favourtism is telling my waters that this could totally work. Sorry this is a long post but that man yaps as much as I do. Just for a laugh (and because I haven't looked closely at anyone else) I'll say Debbie, Erinn, Stephen to be in the final four with him. |

Tyson could be pimping himself on face book because he wants to be on the next SAS. He is pretty funny and has some moments but actually Coach has more screen
time. I see Tyson going into the merge as a challenge threat and he will be targeted... most likely before Coach.

Either Joe has to go because of his infected knee, or we get a crazy first trip to Tribal for the new merged tribes.
Erinn is connected to Joe via Exile, Sierra and Brendan are connected to Stephen and Taj via Exile. JT knows about the idol and is tight with Stephen and Taj. Coach, does he really have any kind of alliance? I don't see it. Debbie isn't someone who'd typically be targeted at the merge when you have so many guys vying for alpha dog. Tyson seems to be the kind that doesn't care that much about voting out Coach. I think Coach goes, and he may be gone even if Joe has to leave. |
