I thought it was her best performance yet. I previously said she would be smart to listen to and be influenced by 60s and 70s R&B, so I was happy to hear her doing Heat Wave. The judges were full of shit to tell her it was a bad song choice. Yes, if she had tried My Guy it might have been even better--or it could have bombed completely. There's no evidence so far that Lil can pull off a romantic or sultry vocal. But tonight her annoying melisma and extra runs were gone, even if the shouting wasn't. Still, there were times when you could tell that she does NOT have a great voice. I agree with the vocal comparisons to Vonzell (who, for all her charm and gorgeous looks, was not a great singer either). Lil kind of runs out of breath quickly and drops notes here and there, presumably because of either lack of experience or simple lack of talent. I am amazed by people who think she's technically impressive, or flawless (!). She's nowhere close to that. I did rank her 3rd tonight because I actually enjoyed her performance and because it's SUCH a weak group overall.

Did anybody else notice that she's trying to look like Jennifer Hudson? Her hair and eye makeup were unmistakably styled like Jennifer's tonight. Unfortunately, her voice isn't even remotely as strong as Jennifer's. R&B singer, yes. Diva voice, NO.
