I think some people are over-thinking this.
O6 (minus Sun) + the islanders that never left are in 1977 Sun, Ben, Locke, Ajira 316ers are in the 'present' (whether it's 2007 or 2008 is not that big a deal though I agree with those who think '30 years later' is just a nice even number rather than 31 years). Plus I think the welcoming station that was all decrepit in 2007/2008 was that way because of the Freighter attack that happened towards the end of S4 when Widdy's gang stormed the place trying to get Ben out and Smokey tore through it. |

Ive been trying to reason out in my head why Sun didnt flash with all the other losties...to be reuninted at the proper crossroads.
And there are only two possibilites that i think could possible ever explain it, if the show even tries to explain it later down the road. And that are: 1) In order to help prevent a paradox, Sun is being prevented from going to a specific point in time on the island where her younger self is, so she doesnt interact with herself when she was never supposed to. Which could explain why Ben didnt flash either (even though he left the island at the same time as the 06). The only way she can meet back up with the other losties is to wait for her younger self to leave the island, and somehow flash back in time where the losties are...or wait for the losties to flash forward (or worse, meet their MUCH older versions if they never flash forwarded :p) I dont particulary like this one, mainly cause im hoping its not true there was a young Sun on the island. Ben..ok. Charlotte, fine. I dont want to start making Jim Henson's Lost babies. 2) Sun was never supposed to leave the island in the first place. But she was preganant. Which means, she should have been on the island during childbirth. Which means, either her baby girl needs to find her way to the island for them all to reunite as they were supposed to, or Sun was supposed to die anyways (she was in the time when women died during childbirth). Which means Christian is right..either way, shes gonna have an interesting journey ahead of her. Shes there to do something still, the island needed her. She just might not have meant to be there for that much longer? Im leaning more towards this one, cause it fits a little more nicely and neatly. Having Christian talk to you is almost like meeting the grim reaper as of now :P |

He was the son that had political aspirations, Asa's grandson I think. I'm pretty sure he had been doing several other projects too, like maybe one of those late night adventure series or something. |

I think it would be too hard for the show to explain that the reason Sun didnt flash back is cause she had an object that was kicked out by the donkey wheel? She certainly could have flashed back in time and have the ring stay on the airplane seat, no? It just seems to stretch rationality if the idea that just cause she was touching something she wasnt allowed to flash....too much :p |

phantomkp wrote:Why? When the time flashes were happening, the general rule was that if someone was touching an object, that object would flash with them (the raft, the rope from the well, etc.) Seems like it might follow that if someone was touching an object that wasn't supposed to flash, that person wouldn't flash either. |

Regarding the 2007-2008 debate....
Any chance the notebook with the different flights that Eloise gave Jack showed the date of the flight? |

Did anyone catch what Kate's Dharma job will be? It's on her uniform when they take the group picture but I can't quite read it. I was amused to
see Hurley is a chef. Hot pockets, anyone?

Plus I think the welcoming station that was all decrepit in 2007/2008 was that way because of the Freighter attack that happened towards the end of S4 when Widdy's gang stormed the place trying to get Ben out and Smokey tore through it. My point was not that it was decrepit, but that it still contained all the stuff it had in 1977...rusted signs hanging loosely from the ceiling, tables and cots stacked up and rotting in the corner, etc. Of course, it's possible the Others were using that building as part of their Dharma front, and the decay we saw was from just three years of disuse, not thirty. I'll accept the explanation that it could be a building near the dock and unimportant to the Others, but if they were still bringing people in on the sub then you'd think that building might come in handy. In order to help prevent a paradox, Sun is being prevented from going to a specific point in time on the island where her younger self is, so she doesnt interact with herself when she was never supposed to. Except that we already saw Sawyer and Locke et al. jump to a time in which they were still on the island...at one point they were just a few hundred yards from where younger Locke was screwing around with the hatch. The possibility of a paradox existed there, but the island did nothing to stop it. In addition, Jack, Sawyer, Sayid, and anyone else in that group who was born before 1977 has a younger counterpart somewhere on Earth. The possibility of a paradox exists there, too, should they decide to leave the island. I stopped reading the other thread so I dunno if you and Scree have sorted out whether those paradoxes can actually occur, but it certainly didn't prevent the island from burping out 27-and-overs into a timeframe where they already existed. |
