I'm in a comunity college RN program and I should be graduating May 2010. My school has a very good reputation, but I pray every day that the economy gets
better by then. Right now the hospitals here in Illinois are not training new grads (and many positions also go unfilled) , they only want people with
experience. I don't dare take a job in LTC after graduation because I have heard that if you do you will never get a job in a hospital. Oh and I don't
thin colleges are irresponsibley graduating students less than 50% of the 95 students my program takes per year graduate.

My friend is an RN at a hospital and although she is full-time, she is not on the hospitals insurance plan. Because of this they pay her an extra $12/hr. Is this legal? |

yeah that's legal. It's called cash in lieu (of benefits). They do that at my work to (except it's only $1 extra)

That's a sweet deal if she has full-time status and not just full-time hours. I worked for years without being on my hospital's insurance and didn't get a penny for it. I'm in a non-union frozen pay situation. I think they're using the "current economic crisis" as an excuse. They have no problem adding more upper level administrators. |
