American Idol 8 - Worst Season of all Time

Posts: 746 (03/06/09 2:57 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	I usually don't say "OMG this season is the worst!", but this is interesting - Last season, we already had a bunch of great, much-talked-about performances - "Daydream", "Hello", "Hallelujah", "Imagine", "Spinning Wheel", "Papa Was A Rolling Stone", "You're So Vain", "Crazy On You", "Love Is A Battlefield". You may not like all of those, but there's got to be at least one or two there you thought were brilliant. We've had NO showstoppers yet, NO blow-you-out-of-your-seat performances yet, and at best we've had a few just "very good" performances. Of course, could be the new format's fault, but still. Something is wrong here.

I loved every aspect of last night's show, but the new format killed the earlier episodes. It was make or break and didn't allow anyone to correct ship after a first week blunder or expand on their first week success. Last night, everyone on that stage performed much better (sans Von)... there was no way to accomplish that this year under the strucutre in place.

Of course, I only like two of the performances you list from last year ("Hello" and "Papa Was a Rolling Stone"), but I would add Kady's "Groovy Kind of Love" which, IMO, was the best-sung song of the season.

BTW, who decided Kara would be a worthwhile addition to the show? She sucks! Everytime she starts talking with her hands and using pretentious words, I'm ready to throw my remote at the TV. Hopefully she doesn't come back next year.

Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	To determine if this really is the worst season ever, we need to compare it to the current champ: the 3rd season. There were 40 performances during the 3rd season semis and wildcard. How many of them were great? Latoya's, probably. And how many could even be called COMPETENT? Not many. Season 3's group 2, the all time gold standard of AI awfulness, the very worst night ever (okay, aside from losing my dinner when Mantasia won and fighting sleep through two hours of Idol Gives Back), had 7 utterly wretched performances and 1 okay one (from Lisa Leuschner, who didn't even get voted through). Groups 1 and 2 this year were very bad, but not THAT bad. Even I'm not masochistic enough to go back and rewatch the likes of Jonah Moananu, The Roman brothers, Heather Piccininni, Kara Master Bates, Fatt Rogers, Bree the dyke, Leah Labelle, etc. and see if they were truly worse than Casey, Mishovanna, Janine, Norman, etc. My gut, and my memory, tells me that they truly were, and that this season will eventually be considered the second-worst out of the eight we currently know about (unless Scott, Michael or Li'l Talent wins, in which case it might be a draw).

Something is wrong here. i totally agree. while last year may not have been the absolute best season ever, by this time last year there were a bunch of performances so well-done and polished, that they could have been recorded right there on the spot. the crap we're hearing this year is so amateur night and unprofessional that it's ridiculous. this year, they don't even care about the singing. the winner this year will be about as good as ashlee simpson - a pretty face who will need to lip-psynch what they recorded in a studio after a hundred takes to sound good. something's definintely wrong. The wild card show is proof that contestants can improve if given another chance. Mostly everyone that night stepped up their game and did well. This season actually sucks so far and I haven't made a statement like that in all 8 years of watching this show (other than group 2 of the semi's in the third season).

This season didn't have a group close to Group 1, but it did have many close to Group 2.

He also said that it'll be around for only one more season, which aligns with the contract he signed awhile ago. I guess they may try to milk it out to end with 10 seasons, but really the show is going down the tubes. The ratings are really down overall, except the wildcard did have more people tuning in, compared to the other semifinal episodes this season.
