On your website, it talks about you traveling to Spain, Morroco, a number of countries. What has taken you to all these parts of the world?
Just trying to help people out, just a lot of mission kind of stuff. It was through a campus ministry that I belong to.

Was it a surprise to make it through?
I was really shocked. I felt like anybody had a shot and I felt so lucky to actually make it through.

A lot of viewers were wondering why we haven't seen a lot of you and how Kara kept raving about you. Did you feel, in a way, "Hey, where am I? Why didn't I get more screen time?"
I think that went through my head a little bit, but I was just trying to stay grounded and hopefully that doesn't matter. I have to go out there and do my thing on live TV. I think that I showed myself this past week and I think people liked it.

How hard is it to be someone who feels like they weren't featured as much as others?
I love being the guy who is kind of in the background. I wasn't looking for the cameras and trying to put my face in there, I didn't have any problems with it.

Nick/Norman is entertaining and all but if I were on the show, I'd be crying that he is hogging a spot with his antics. Is there any animosity towards him or are you questioning his mockery of the show?
He's not mocking the show. He's doing what he knows how to do and that's entertain. We all love him to death.

So far three of the finalists have been worship leaders. [Michael Sarver, Danny Gokey and Kris Allen.] How does that experience effect your performance skills?
I've been doing that for about six years, since college. It's a different way to sing, but yeah, it definitely helps you. You have to go about it a different way when you're actually performing but it helps a lot.

In regards to SImon's comment about chicks digging you, are you kind of a ladies man?
[laughs] No, not really. I've been with the same woman for seven years ... I'm just going to try to be myself and if girls like it, great. Hopefully, guys like it too.

What kind of music do you see yourself putting out?
I think a lot of acoustic, soul-type music.

Do you think you'll be bringing the guitar anytime soon?
Hopefully, the next time you see me.

What process did you go through to be able to sing without the guitar?
I felt like I picked a song with energy to it, so I felt I didn't need the guitar. You could kind of dance around, get into it. It was a lot of practicing in the room, by yourself, making sure you don't look like an idiot on stage in front of a million people.

You looked really surprised that you went through rather than Megan. Were you surprised?
I was really, really surprised. I thought Megan did a great job and that she's a lovely person and could go really far in the music business. I just feel really lucky that I got as many votes as I did.

What do you think it was that America saw in you? Your charm, your personality, your voice?
I don't know what they saw, I wish could get in their heads and see. You know, hopefully it was my personality that came across
