Ok, how does this work? Do we vote? Confused.
I have the same question.... your diagram isn't clear how the actual people are picked and who performs on that show and etc.

At the end of the show on March 4, we will have 9 people in the top 12
On March 5, they will have a Wildcard show. I believe that they will take the next highest vote getter from each of the 3 groups and automatically put them in the Wild Card round. That makes 3. Then each of the 4 judges will pick one contestant from the remaining 24 contestants (from the original 36). That makes 7 in the wild card round. All 7 of those contestants will perform on March 5 and at the end of the show, the judges will pick the 3 people who they think deserve to be in the top 12. So, after we are done with the groups on March 4, 7 people will get a second shot at being in the top 12, but only 3 will actually make it. Is that clearer. I'm not saying this is exactly how it's going to work, but I have come to this conclusion from what I've read and heard about the Wildcard show. Who knows, I might be completely wrong. They could always spring a "twist" on us in this Wildcard Round. |

Much clearer. I didn't know you were speculating though. We are waiting and seeing I guess.

What I do know as fact is the judges will ONLY pick from the remaining 24 from the Top 36. In other words, they will not pick contestants from the Top 50

Warwick explained, "And then the viewers at home will put the top three through from those three weeks, which gives us nine, and we need a top twelve. So then we're having a wild card show, where three of the kids will be the fourth highest vote. So from each week, you'll get the top boy, the top girl and the next highest vote through. And then when we get to the wild card show, the fourth from those three shows will go through and then the judges can add to it, anybody they like that they thought maybe they knew was better and was just off form. Maybe they picked the wrong song. Whatever reason they choose, they can make that fourth show up to probably about nine or ten people, I haven't quite decided yet. And then, they will decide who the final three will be." Source Things could always change, especially since Ryan has yet to announce anything about this on the show itself. |

And then, they will decide who the final three will be."Is he talking about the judges? Or the voters? Still confusing... If they haven't decided how the choice is made, they might be waiting to see who makes it through in the first three rounds to try to "fix" the male-female ratio or get the ones they want in the top 12. |

Yeah, I figure they are looking at the vote totals, total itunes downloads, etc. And then the producers force the judges to pick.
I was talking to friends earlier and someone joked that Tati would be brought back and be one of 2 final people and only one will make the top 12. I'm like of course that's what'll happen as they love fucking with her. But then I am thinking the "twist" could very well be a top 13. They'll fuck with Tati, tell her she didn't make it. She has a breakdown then they tell her there is a twist and she gets the 13th spot. She passes out, mass outrage and screams fill Americas streets, hilarity ensues.

Cassidy, he's referring to the judges. There are similar quotes from other places (LA Times, EW) that indicate that. But again, these interviews with
Warwick were done in Dec. so things are always subject to change. The schedule doesn't allow for voting since the wildcard "round" is actually a
one-hour Thursday show during the third semifinal week.

Yep, the judges will pick the 3 wild cards .

This is why I put the part in my chart about the next highest vote getter after the 3 chosen from each group. |

Good, thanks for clarifying that it was just a one hour special episode and thanks for confirming the judges will be picking three people.

They should have just not wasted time with a wildcard and just let the next highest vote getter in each group into the Top 12 too. I guess they're doing it
this way though in case any pimped favos somehow don't make Top 12 or they need to balance out the genders or throw in more fodder.

I like train wrecks as much as the next guy, but it seems like we wouldn't be left with any fodder after the intense process the judges use to whittle down the contestants in Hollywood. |

One hour seems like an awfully small window to do all they say they are going to do. I assume they will announce the seven who will be there on Wednesday night? But how would the judges make their decision right after finding out who goes home? Then on Thursday, seven will perform and the judges knock it donw to three, all before signing off at 9 PM? This will either be a rushed mess or a fixed, predetermined outcome. Or, likely, both. |

I don't doubt it's all been planned out carefully long before now, with all kinds of contingency scenarios in place. I mean, if Group 1 (and presumably
Group 2) will find out their wildcard status next week, then they're not really leaving many spots open for Group 3, are they? There could be surprising
stand-out performances in the third week, but too bad for them, I guess.

Twist Prediction: The wild cards perform on March 5th, but the Stooges delay their picks until the next week (March 10th). Then, all 7-9 Wild Card
contestants get invited back, wait, "Nashville Star" style, to be told which three of them made it, and then the chosen ones must perform
immediately.

I think it supports my theory that American idol is gonna transform into X-Factor this year with less mentors because the judges themselves will be the permanent mentors. I personally think its a better twist than a top 13 (which Australia did and it turned out to be very inconsequential) |

^^ I don't know if that's even true. A day or two ago, I read about that Frank Rogers project with Frankie and Jamar. Apparently they can't record new music in a studio because Jamar (not sure about Frankie, the poster only talked about Jamar) is under contract until the WC is over. But once the WC is over, he will no longer be under contract if he's in the same position. Things that make you go hmm. |
