Okay, last season had a much better family vibe going. Looking forward to Tocantins.
Let's hear it for dysfunctional, backstabbing, stressed-out families! |

Have any Fs or Ms been set up yet? Sandy seems a bit crazy for the typical M...

I'd think Jerry's a good bet for a Father, but too soon to tell if
he'll last. My guess is, after his opening confessional, that he has some real story before and if he goes.

Gosh, if I had to pick right now:
Jalapao F - JT (young to be an F, but based on Carolina's post-boot interviews) M - Sandy, Taj (Taj offering correction to Carolina. Sandy, although expressing some non-motherly sentiments in confessions, interacts in a mothering way, especialling with Spencer) D - Sydney (one would expect from age and gender, but I don't think we saw enough to know) S - Spencer, Joe E - Stephen Obviously, conflict for Mother. One of them next out for this tribe. Timbira F - Ben, ?Jerry, ?Brendan M - Debra D - Sierra, Erinn, Candace S - E - Tyson The Fathers are interesting. I think any one of the three would move to an F in the other tribe, but Jerry and Brendan (what little we saw of them), seem pretty adaptable. I think each of them could support Ben in the Father role, acting like a Son, rather than fight him for it, for the good of the tribe. Should lose a daughter or two next. |

I didn't get to see enough of most people to really get a feel for their role. I think JT, Jerry and Ben (coach) are potential fathers. Sandy may be an
E, she didn't seem very motherly to me. Other than that, probably a bunch of S and D but I need to seem more of them before deciding for sure. I still
don't most of their names!

a quick framework subject to more info later.... i'd go with this:
Jalapao F - JT, Joe* M - Taj D - Sydney S - Stephen, Spencer E - Sandy**, Carolina *The little we saw of Joe was very fatherly in that he was reporting what went down between Carolina and the others, and there was a distinct attitude about "calming things down" that was more parental than son-like. Joe was also the one in charge of the compass and directions, before JT stepped in (so the struggle for FATHER begins). **Sandy is definitely an E. She was called out by Jeff as Crazy and she agreed! Her tribe-mates have nick maned her "Psycho Sandy" and labelled her as anti-social. (with subtitles). She may have called herself "Mother", but she sure isn't acting like one. No nurturing, no care-taking, etc. Very self-centred. Timbira F - Jerry, Brendan* M - Debbie (just an assumption based on age and that she's a principal, and she went to get water with her "kids") D - Candace, Sierra, Erinn S - Brendan, Tyson** E - Coach, Tyson*** *Jerry is definitely a Father. His intro speech tells us this, but he also was shown to praise Sierra for all the work she did (it was subtitled when they arrived at camp). Brendan MAY be a Father, for a similar reason as Jerry (he hugged Sierra and said Thank You).... however we know very little about him, and since he's younger, he may slide into the Son role instead. I can see Jerry being a quiet Father like Bob was. ** The Sons. I think Tyson... as weird as he is, is actually a son. His main scene was involving the mother and the daughters and connecting with them. I haven't ruled out the E entirely, i think we need more from him still, but he just seems more son-like to me.... Brendan - once we know more about him - will likely fall into the son role. He wasn't shown too much... taking the lead ... or otherwise for that matter. ***Coach is pretty darn odd. Yes he's all about the game and survival, etc .... but did you listen to that speech! OMG...samurai warriors and heroic deaths! Yikes! he's a little out there ... too much so from a conventional father role. And a FATHER wouldn't write off a daughter the way Coach did. Instead the Father would PRAISE her for building the shelter....Just the way Jerry and Brendan did. Coach is too extreme to fill the Father role properly and i think he will be more successful as the E. I haven't written off Tyson yet for this role, but i feel like Tyson is more of a son. He was shown to be positively connecting with people, where all of Coach's connections were more strained (just like any good E)! We don't know quite as much about Timbira simply because we didn't get to see them with a looming TC. That really tells us a lot about the tribe dynamics. Maybe next week??? With our luck, it'll be another Kota / Fang scenario.

Thanks Phoenix for articulating why Sandy is E, not M. That's definitely what I was thinking about her too.
I guess I should watch the episode again, I still don't remember Joe. |

I'll go with that line-up, Phoenix. It's a good start.
Jalapao looks more easily defined than Timbira at this point. Coach seems too aggressive to fit a good Eccentric. Eccentrics, like Randy, are usually better followers than leaders. They vow loyalty to an alliance, usually with a known position on the totem pole, usually a promised or hinted F-3. Randy was loud and nasty, but he was a loyal alliance member. Coach seems more likely to continue to try and lead and instigate. My guess is he'll be fighting for leader position, which will likely get him booted, unless he proves more successful than he has so far. Brendan's confessional makes it look likely that Coach will end up a failed leader (a.k.a., history.) |

good point about the E's not tending to lead- FLF... I hadn't really thought about that.
But he's just so darn odd.... well, we'll see soon enough i guess! |

A few seasons back we discussed players that were hard to categorize. Lady V (where is Lady V, anyway!) pointed out
that it probably showed that the player was having a hard time finding a successful family role. Players that seem to have confused or difficult to categorize
roles are probably destined to fail sooner than later.
It looks like a game twist is coming, according to the commercials. If so, we might do well to see if it means new tribe configurations. Coach could get a new start, but so far it looks like he's destined to be the overly aggressive jackass. |

After Episode 2
Jalapao F - JT, Spoken of by Stephen as a great leader. - Joe, Still showing quiet leadership. M - Taj, Oh yeah. D - Sydney All she can be. S - Stephen, Stephen tells us he's JT's goofy right hand man. - Spencer, Spencer can't be anything else. E - Sandy Jeff,(first TC), "Are you a little crazy, Sandy?", Sandy, "Yeah, I'm a little crazy..." Timbira F - Jerry, Shown calm and observant. -Coach, Egotistical womanizer, (maybe that should be "creep"), with a big mouth, but everyone seemed on board with his plan to target Candace. M - Debbie She's more like the mom who wants to show her kids' friends that she's "young and cool". But, maybe that's too harsh. D - Sierra The spunky daughter. Maybe needs to lighten up a bit. She finally smiled after the vote. -Erinn Erinn seems a bit lost, family-wise by the end of the episode. Not good for her survival. S - Brendan Best fits a Son for me. -Tyson Seemed more Son and not the OTT guy this episode. E - Coach -Tyson These two are the only ones who could still have a shot at Eccentric. But, I don't think either fits. |

FLF! you beat me too it, but you wrote pretty much everything I was going to say too.
Looks like the Episode 1 assessment was pretty darn close. Tyson was totally son, hanging with dad Jerry. And Coach was way more Father -like...especially towards Sierra this time. Total agreement on Brendan. Definte son... and it looks like he's picked his mom (Taj)... i wonder how THAT"S gonna work out! And I'm not sure if there are any E's on Timbira, either.... But if Erinn doesn't figure out where she fits soon, she may very well end up E like Crystal & Courtney (ie. unresolved family position).... hmmm.... that i could see actually. |

Es usually show up best when there is an alliance established. They are the always faithful alliance members who
usually make F-4 if their alliance survives.
Coach would never settle for being a loyal follower, so he's probably either the successful N Father or he's toast. |

The thing to remember with Erinn is that with the chance to mutiny, people ostracized from their tribe may be mutinying instead of near elimination

FallenTorch wrote:true.... but i think as far as family roles, mutiny wouldn't necessarily be a good thing. For roles that are scarce and in demand (like the coveted mother role), a mutiny might be a profitable gamble. For a daughter or son role... roles that are always usually duplicated, I don't know that this would be a wise-move. The mutiny can only really work if the position that they "are" is vacant or filled with someone who is not good in their role. It will be interesting to see how that plays out though. I think based on what we've seen right now, Taj may have the best chance of succeeding with a mutiny, but i doubt it if Coach-N-Dad has anything to say about it. |

Joe: ?; S; ?; F; F F JT: F "follow JT" "JT is our leader"; F; F; F; F E Sandy: E "are you a little crazy?" Tyson: E (naked in the river); E;?;E/S; S; E Looks like we are still a bit unclear about Brendan, Tyson, and Joe. My take on Brendan is that he is forming several alliances already, but I don't see him being a father. As for Tyson, the scene of him naked in the river and his confessional afterward seemed pure E to me. Tiara, make people laugh, etc. As for Joe, he isn't memorable to me yet. We seem to have lots of clear agreement on most of the rest of them! Bravo FF4ers, and welcome to those who are new here!! :) |
