THIS crap is going to win Best Picture? Just goes to show what CRAP is being released out there, another slow year. I agree with Tea Leoni's assessment, why have awards EVERY year? Everybody gets one it's so oversaturated. I don't have to end this thread with the Am I Missing something... because I missed nothing. Pure garbage. Total agreement. I also hated the faux Bollywood number at the end. I was expecting a kick ass fast paced one like in Gumnaam, or hell, even The Guru.

Directing, acting, cinematography, music, and editing were all great. I was really impressed with the child actors, well all the actors pretty much. Those kids just really stood out to me.

Posts: 819 (02/09/09 1:12 PM) Local user Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	lakita and salim were completely one-dimentional characters, and in lakita's case, it discredited what was a flimsy love story to begin with. the actor who played jamal was likable and capable, but his shy, aloof demeanor did little to endear him to the audience. the story had more coincidences than a charles dickens book, which is fine, but many of the flashbacks seemed very convenient. while it was a unique approach to storytelling, the gimmick soon wore off and shattered any pretense of realism. the film is generally fun, however, and does manage to shed some light on the magnitude of poverty in mumbai. i thought the best part of the film were the children, hands down. not as good as the wrestler or doubt, but about 8000 times better than gran tarino, cant even believe that movie got made.

Every single aspect of it was.....comically awful. Like, I could go along with the "it was all meant to be" thing in theory, even though it's not good storytelling at all, if it was presented in a somewhat non-retarded way. The way the answers were presented in the flashbacks ("Back off before I get you with this *COLT 45!) reminded me of the "in jokes" in Across the Universe*, ie they were painfully obvious to begin with and presented in a way that assumed the audience was made up of retards. The actors were uniformly terrible. I didn't find Jamal likeable AT ALL, nor buy his obsession with this girl he barely knows. He was too stupid to get the joke answer right for chrissakes. The brother was a Disney villain caricature, as was the host. It somehow managed to be needlessly frantic (flashback, flashforward, back to torture, back to gameshow, back to childhood, etc) and boring at the same time. It just...a mess. I really hated it.
