If the island only moves in time, maybe it reappears in the exact same place in the universe, but not in the world. Thus, when it reappears
it is placed back on the earth but after the earth has been revolving and rotating, and therefore it appears to have moved in space, but really
it's only the earth that has moved. This might explain the plane crash out of Nigeria.

I would imagine this has surfaced already but I only ran across it today. SOme info about the history of the ancient real "Black Rock" on Maui near
the Sheraton Inn.
Ka'anapali Beach,
Highway 340 West Maui Black Rock is the site where ancient Hawaiians believed that their spirits "jumped off" or left this world. Each island has such a spot. It was believed that a spirit left this world to join it ancestors. If there were no ancestors to greet the spirit, it would wander the earth causing mischief. Black Rock divides the beautiful beaches of Ka'anapali and Kahekili. Resorts line the coast but there are several public beach accesses
available. This area is the site of one of the last volcanic eruptions on Maui. Snorkeling and scuba diving is especially good in this area as Black Rock forms
a great reef wall. Locals are often seen diving into the deep waters around the rock.

I really don't see how the Island would appear under the ship. The Island would be underwater and then raise up again? That's not what's happening
now.
And if some force magically lifts whatever happens to be in the location just a split second before the Island appears, heaving it into the air to fall down upon the Island when it pops in, you'd also think a lot of water would come along for the ride. I know it rains suddenly on the Island, but this would just be a quick splash. Also not happening. |

I think it's all a function of what the island desires. It might manipulate, control, limit, and reach out for what it wants to be on the island when it
moves.
Remember, there's an "unlimited" energy source here that can manipulate or contort space time in any way it chooses (that's conjecture). You might be assuming that the island appears as a singularity and then spherically grows to normal size in its new space-time location. Why couldn't it reform from a singularity shaped like a donut, or a potato ship, or some other exotic multi-dimensional shape? The airplane wreckage may not have jumped with the Losties because the island did not will it to move, or because its presence might have disrupted something else in the time-line and thus breaking the "rules" of time causality. |

I don't even remember a black rock. Now I have to re-watch the old episodes!

It's a ship. Did you use all your 33 posts in this forum tonight?

Why do they call it a black rock? I totally don't remember that. That is where they got the dynamite right?

It's the name of the ship. Yes, it's where the dynomite was stored. It's also where Sawyer killed Locke's dad. |

I actually like what goosehead said in post #21 up there ^^^^^^ sounds plausible.
however: someone posted this (sorry didn't grab your name!) It would have to move in space too, otherwise it wouldn't "disappear".I think the video in the Orchid explained this--- Marvin Candlewickwax said that "the rabbit appears to" I think he was going to say it appears to disappear, but is merely an illusion. |

tigeranne wrote: I don't think that contradicts my suggestion above, it would just be the case that because the rabbit was only moving in time 10 seconds, it would seem to reappear almost in the exact same spot ... you might not even notice that it disappears. But if the rabbit was sent forward into time, say, 1 year, it would reappear far away from the laboratory. (according to the logic of my suggestion) |

Goosehead wrote: I don't think that would work. Remember that not only does the earth rotate but it also moves in space. The sun also orbits the center of the galaxy (which also moves). The sun and the earth both move incredibly fast. If the island were to remain at a constant point in the universe then after the jump it would reappear somewhere in space because the solar system and earth would have moved a great distance in-between any two timeframes. |

Considering 4-dimensional space, you can mathematically set up your coordinates so that any arbitrary point is "the center" of the universe. Which is
just another way of saying, there isn't one.

There's also a "black rock" where Zeke Friendly "drew the line" that the Losties weren't supposed to cross ...

But wouldn't gravity or the Earth's atmosphere keep the island from floating out into space? Or could it float in the airspace above earth?

karen1407 wrote: The main thing is the part about "staying in the same spot in the universe." If the island stays in the same spot the earth will move away from it very fast. If this were to happen, for even one second, the island would be very far away from the earth. I haven't done the math but I think farther away than the moon would be likely. Obviously this doesn't happen so the island must be tied to the earth somehow when it jumps. Not to mention being able to find a water landing and to land the right side up. It would also have to move the water and the air out of the way. 2 pieces of mater can't occupy the same space so, the water, air, and potentially the Black Rock would need to be moved. I suspect technobabble or writer hand waving will come into play at some point to explain things (if they do). I do like the idea that the Black Rock ended up where it did because the island came into existence around it at some point in the past. |
