I really don't like watching dubbed movies, so I had to stop it. I have the same problem. It makes me laugh when people say that subtitles are too distracting and that they can't pay attention to the movie when they have to gasp read, when I personally find dubbing far more distracting. Movies are a matter of opinion so acting like you're superior because you like a movie or don't is ridiculous. Generally, I agree with that, but I have to admit I do feel superior to all the people who saw Paul Blart Mall Cop over the last two weekends.

"You dont speak any Spanish." "No, I studied Chinese." "Chinese? Why did you study Chinese?" "I thought it sounded pretty." "Say something in Chinese." "Nihowa." "You think that sounds pretty?" I jizzed my pants. It's like watching a Mia Wallace character taken to the extreme. It's amazing. Watch it.

Posts: 5734 (01/27/09 1:21 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	I think Slumdog's win for Best Ensemble was its most ridiculous award yet; I think the film is just fine but I wouldn't remotely rank it anywhere near "best of the year" and I certainly wouldn't call the acting great, either. All those campaigns for Patel and Pinto were so laughable; Patel just looked stiff, scared, and/or bored throughout the proceedings and Pinto just stood there and looked pretty. She did it well, but it's not an Oscar-worthy art. Still think Rachel Getting Married was the best move I saw of last year, but of the ones nominated I'd love to see Milk or Frost/Nixon take it. Loved those two movies. The more I think about Ben Button, the more I realize how much I didn't really care for it.

Good news! I didn't hate it...but I didn't love it either. Best Picture? Are you serious? I mean it was cute, but totally unbelievable. I think I even liked Ben Bottom more than I liked Slumdog. I'll have to think about it. My pic to win is still MILK, probably because as a gay man it resonates with me more than any of the others. I loooooved MILK and would see it again. I haven't been able to say that about any of the other BP noms. If I had to rank them at this moment it would be: 1. Milk 2. The Reader 3. Benjamin Button Tie for 4: Frost / Nixon & Slumdog Millionaire

Anyone who doesn't like Slumdog just doesn't like an underdog story which is a shame.

Don't get me wrong...I'm all about fantasy (Lord of the Rings), thrillers (James Bond, the Bourne series), suspense (The Sixth Sense) and even silly movies (Rocky Horror) that are not believable. LOVE 'EM! It's the dramas that try to pass themselves off as believable that give me a problem. That's how I classify Slumdog. I don't like that, and maybe that's just my thing, I dunno. I give Benjamin Button a pass as far as believability goes because the whole premise is the guy ages backwards...I knew that going in. It's "fantasy" just like Lord of the Rings. Not only was the story in Slumdog Millionaire a underdog story, the movie it self is a true underdog story, the fact that it wasn't going to be released, its a searchlight film, and is full of a cast of un-knows and its winning all these awards over big movies like Milk and Button is an underdog story itself. Everyone is talking about this Dark Knight BS but Slumdog is the movie the public wants to see win [ala Little Miss Sunshine and Juno] but this time Slumdog resintes with Acadamy voters and the public making it the best of both worlds.
