How old was he when you adopted him? What is his story?

I've had him for about four months. Starbuck sure was lucky to be found. 2 months is so young to be out in this crazy world all alone. Murphy looked like he was a sweet dog. RIP Murphy.Thanks. He was so nice, smart, and considerate. I rarely had to put a leash on him. I miss him every day. I still get @%**! in my eyes every now and then with Henry - he wags his tail the whole time he is eating breakfast and dinner, he loves all his toys, he seems so happy sleeping on his doggie bed, adores his "big brother" and terrorizing him. It is rewarding for both the pet AND the owner to adopt/rescue.There really is a joy that I feel knowing that Boomer went from a scared life not knowing what to expect to a happy dog that knows he has a permanent home. They do give it back to us 100 times over. |

Whenever I get irritated that the dog woke me up at 6 AM or chewed my shoes, or somehow ate an entire thing of suntan lotion, I think about how much joy he
gives me, and that had I not adopted him, he'd have no shoes to chew at all, and all those annoyances go away.

CBRetriever wrote:rescue dogs are the best! buster, my lab/akita mix (as far as we could tell) that i've written about before, was very skittish when we first brought him home. he'd been a stray that a friend of ours in town had adopted, but she was away all day and the low-life boys in her neighborhood were teasing him while she wasn't home, so we brought him out to our farm. once he settled in, he loved us, but was very scared of any strangers, especially adult men. it broke my heart, knowing that someone had abused him, because he was the most loving dog ever. we had a female beagle, maggie, when we brought him home who thought she was queen of the world (we'd had another female beagle before her - their personalities are more like cats than dogs), and buster was _such_ a dog...slavishly devoted to us and always so full of joy to see us come home, or when we came out of the house (he never did get comfortable coming into the house, and we figured he'd been beaten for coming inside). fiercely and intelligently protective of us, he was a god-send since i'd been widowed a few months before we got him. i still tear up about having to leave him behind when we moved, even though we left him with our neighbors who i know are taking excellent care of him. i just love reading about all your dogs, they're all so great, and i hope someday to be in a house again so we can have a dog or two, but as for now it's just not practical. |

StarrEise your dog reminds me of my Buddy. Looks like a very sweet dog.

Thanks guys!
His expressions give him so many different looks. He is bigger now, but still cute. He is getting handsome as well. I tell him he is studly. His dad is big and still clumsy and I imagine he is going to be too one day, so I think Moose will fit him well in the coming years. He was the biggest of the litter and the kids wanted to call him Pork Chop, but I just couldn't see myself yelling out the door for Pork Chop. We all agreed on Moose. |

I want MOOSE!!!! Gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme!!
What a cutie! And those eyes...he's a real gem. My dog is a shelter dog, too. When she was just a puppy, someone threw her (and her brother) over the chain link fence surrounding the animal shelter. The workers found them roaming around the next morning and took her in. I met her a day after she got there. She was in the cage with two other puppies, but when she saw me, she stopped playing, came to the door, and sat down and stared at me. I knew right then that she was the one. It's been ten years of (mostly) bliss. She's the most loyal dog ever. When she goes, I'll get another shelter dog, but I would still consider kidnapping MOOSE! |

I try to alternate a shelter dog with a bought one and when my alpha bitch goes to the happy hunting ground (hopefully many years in the future), I'll be
fostering dogs. that's where a real need exists - there are too few homes to hold the dogs we pull out of shelters or get from people who no longer want or
can take care of, their CBRs. I'm presuming it's the same way with all the breed rescue groups, so if you want a purebred, it's a good route to go,
foster unil you've found the one you want to keep.
