That's great promo for the song, but will it interfere with the episode and make it even shorter than it already is?

I was genuinely wondering why nearly none of her songs are pure originals. That's not a dig at all. I love MLWSWY.

Dictatorship wrote:If you would listen to the interviews I posted, you would have all the answers. 4 to 6 songs will be written by /or with Kelly for the album and the other are songs her label brought to her. As far as I know Save You and Hooked Up aren't on anyone albums, so Kelly is the original singer. The same as Miss Independent and Breakaway, written for others, but Kelly ended recording them. From pulse....

In an interview, her manager said they took a different route than normal when looking for songs for this album. Some excerpts from that interview with her
manager Trisha McClanahan.
She's got a pretty interesting story that you told me off air about, she's working with the guy from Color Me Bad. Sam Waters right. So explain to me how he got the demo to her. Sam's wife and Kelly are friends, actually Tamyra Gray is his wife who was an American Idol contestant Kelly's season, and he wrote these songs for Kelly and emailed them and they were fully produced demos with vocal. She loved it and we went to the label, and they loved it and we went in the studio. Talk about the song selection process though, because she doesn't have final say on it I imagine,
she's got to like run around with a flag pole to see if the label likes it and if everyone else likes it.
All those people are part of the process but she does have ultimate say on what she wants to say on the record, yeah. So ultimately it's her decision, but all those people will have input. Well she's certainly got great intuition. Absolutely. Did Sam just send her something, he said hey I've got some songs that might work for Kelly Clarkson, or did he know she was actually looking for stuff, how do you guys get the word out about that? Songs come from all different directions. I'm sure Kelly told her friends that she was getting ready to start looking again, but you're always looking you know you always have it on your radar. But I think we have a great A&R person at the label who looks for songs. I kind of told our publishers here in Nashville we were looking for songs. Word gets out a lot fast than you'd think and they come from all directions. How does that differ when you're looking for Reba, the song selection process. You know one way to look at it is the difference between Country acts and Pop acts. Nashville typically publishers come in or writers come in they'll play me songs, they'll play Reba songs. Reba will take meetings with the publishers, that's the way we've always done it. In the Pop world that is very rare we found, because we took Kelly to LA to the publishers to take meetings and have them pitch. That never happens, they've never had an act come in and do that. One way Pop songs happen sometimes is they just put a writer and an artist and a producer in a studio and just hope magic happens. You know, where in the country world we always go in with the song, and a schedule and this is how you're going to do it. There's that difference, but ultimately we're bring some Nashville sensibility to the pop process which is sort of refreshing and it's opened the door to a lot more songs. With Kelly talking to the publishers directly, she's able to tell them, this is the kind of thing I'm looking for, and they can go back to their writers and their writers will write for it. And they're getting that feedback from her. I mean I could go in and meet with them, but I'm not Kelly Clarkson. The A&R guy can go in and he might find great songs, I might find great songs, the mail guy might find great songs, but hearing it from Kelly, what she's looking for is the key. Yeah, because she ultimately is the one who has to really sell the song. Right. …. Speaking of the entire product, again you've got two different artists as far as the stages of their career, how often do you guys put out albums? - Oh, wow, um.. - I mean is there a difference between the length of time that Reba can wait and the length of time that Kelly can wait to put out a new record? I think the pop world traditionally puts more time span between the albums. I don't know that the mentality is that different. You just know when it's right, when you don't have the next single, and it's time to go. When you've toured an album too long and it's time to move to the studio, that's sort of an organic process.
How has Kelly handled that fame, because that did come up pretty quickly as opposed to like Reba I guess who kind of eased into it. Right, she's handled it beautifully. On the other hand, Reba's in a stage in her career where she's instantly recognizable. I mean just because she's iconic at this point. Kelly can still you know disappear in the crowd a little bit, but I think I wouldn't have handled it as well at her age as Kelly has. I think she's handled it great. They're both very approachable, relatable artists. I think people feel because Kelly was on American Idol, people feel she's part of their family, or you know she was in their living room every night. But she handles it always with grace, and people are so kind and there's nothing mean spirited about it.
-- Talking about song selection… Sometimes there's a song, and you think I think that's a good song, but I don't really feel it
right now and you can come back to it. And there are a lot of songs where that happens, and there are songs that you pass on, like I passed on a song
that I didn't think was that great and Kelly really liked it, went and cut it and it's awesome. And you've got to be open about that, it's not
about your ego, or anyone's ego, it's about the best song for the artist. And ultimately the artist has the final say.
… Narvel and Reba have created an environment where it's a team and we all play and work together and no idea is put down, every idea is considered and it's just been, because of the multitude of business opportunities that Reba's done and brought to fruition, we've all had great opportunities to learn. --Trisha's sixty second rant… I think we talked a little bit about in management or any time you're working with an artist, your whole goal is just to bring their wishes and their dreams to fruition. You know you've got to give them the tools to do that, to be authentic to themselves. But I think in doing that, sometimes your day to day life is mired in details and stuff that doesn't seem to matter and there's paper work and there's contracts and there's emails, and sometimes it seems overwhelming and you do listen to a lot of songs and it's a lot of balls to have in the air at once, but what always happens to me is I'll go out on tour and I'll be at a Reba show and it's like going to the Revival. I fall in love with her voice and her music and I think that's what it's all about, that's what we're bringing to people. And the same thing just happened to me with recently in the studio with Kelly, you know she gets behind the mic and it's a fricken gift and it's magic, and I think how lucky I am and what all this stuff is for. You know I reiterate it's not about being famous, it's about belief in the art and you want to bring that art to the people. |

Graced Kelly
Simon Cowell rarely dishes out compliments. But when it comes to original American Idol champ Kelly Clarkson, the British judge is full of praise. "Kelly will be here for 30 years," he predicted. "She has one of the best pop voices in the world right now. What she sold in the UK, Europe, Asia had nothing to do with American Idol. It had everything to do with the fact that she's got an incredible voice. She's not a girl who got lucky in a talent competition; we got lucky to find her." Since winning American Idol in 2002, Clarkson has sold over 18million albums worldwide, earned two Grammy Awards and produced a string of Top 10 hits. She reflects on her Idol win and the show's pitch-perfect run. Has the show has changed over the years? Our season was so different from any other. We were the first ones and nobody knew [how big Idol would be]. We were all so tired and living in a bubble. We worked night and day, doing interviews and photo shoots. We were up at 4am and went to bed after 10pm. We lived in a bubble so we didn't even know it was that successful. I remember [at the final] peeking out from behind the curtain at the Kodak Theater and thinking, 'Man there are just a lot of people here! People must really like this show!' (Laughs) We didn't realize it had blown up so fast; we didn't get a chance to think about it. Now all these kids who audition for Idol have seen what can happen and what the show is. They know what to do. For us, though, it was very different. Do you think the show is more about popularity than talent? No, I think it really recognizes talent. I think it's a great way for unsigned singers to be heard. Chris Daughtry didn't even win, but he's doing phenomenally well right now and selling millions. And Carrie Underwood is the biggest thing in country music. And why? Because she's talented. Have you watched every season? I watched the season when Jordin won [Season Six]. Every other year I've been touring overseas so I haven't [had a chance to] see the show. What did you learn from American Idol?
Are the judges fair? They are. People tend to criticize Simon or Randy for being too harsh, but they are tame compared to music critics. And they are nothing compared to what people say about you in magazines (laughs). People might say the judges are being too mean, but they are just setting us up for what the real industry is like. Not everybody is going to like everything that you do. You've got to have thick armor if you're going to do this job. Are you still in touch with any of the judges? I'm not in touch with them on a daily basis, but we always run into each other at different events. Paula Abdul has been ridiculed for her critiques. Fair? I know she comes off like she's loopy, but when you talk to her she's perfectly normal. I guess some people read differently on camera and in interviews. Performers like Britney Spears have buckled under the pressures of fame. How do you stay so grounded? I think it's very different when you grow up in this industry. I had a normal upbringing. I went to proms and through that awkward junior-high stage. I've had some normalcy and stability in my life [whereas Britney] has lived her life under a microscope. I think it's really hard for her. I think the key to staying grounded in this industry is to surround yourself with good people. Do you have any other tips to keep your ego in check? I don't live in LA, I live in Texas and I have the same friends that I've had since I was a kid. I work so much that there's not a lot of time to do a lot of damage or stupid stuff. I'm not really into the fame thing, either. I just want to focus on my singing, writing and performing.
