I'm watching on NBC. Tyra was great this episode, I really liked her scene with Riggins at his house. Mrs. Coach is awesome as always and I too hate how
she's being treated all because of a stupid jumbotron. But living in Texas, I can tell you that people often place priority on football over academics.
It's really sad, and I say this as a big football fan. I adore Matt and his scenes with Julie were sweet. I miss Street though.

Another NBC watcher. I wonder if the fact that the hot shot new quarterback's name is "McCoy" is coincidence or a tip of the hat to Austin.
Poor Smash...Texas AM? They're in the big 12 basement right now--but at least it's a Division I school.
Tyra rocks and the vice principal/counselor guy is just a tool. I'm liking Mrs. Coach as the principal, but the storyline is a little weird for me. In our small Texas school district, a spouse wasn't allowed to work at a school where his/her spouse was principal. Is coach an AD that reports directly to the superintendant? And wouldn't something like a donated jumbotron be something that was dealt with at the superintendant/school board level and not the principal? OK, I'm getting too literal, but it just bugs me. Grandma is sometimes one of the wiser people on the show. Love her. |

Definitely not a coincidence. The show is filmed in Austin and UT allows them to use their field. Also note the name of JD's qb coach "Wade Aikman"... again, another reference to both Wade Phillips & Troy Aikman. |

I just watched the second episode. Love it!
The only thing that bugs me is Mrs. Coach's tits hanging out at school. I would hope a teacher/principal wouldn't dress like that. [/prude] |

lilnubber wrote: Fucking Prude. That would only upset me if you have not seen the next Ep of FNL on DirecTV © (or now on NBC!). Then you should turn this show off right now. Because Mrs. Coach's Tits ® may or may not play a big part of the entire season. For me? Hell yes. But for the rest of y'all? Maybe not so much... Blerg... |

If Mrs. Coach were my principal, I would be the biggest troublemaker in school, so she could disciple me.

So bump for tonight's show. Very good. The problems both Mrs. Coach/Principal and Coach/Mr. Principal (loved that "touche!") are having felt so
true. This was an excellent hour of TV in almost every respect, and most of it was a downer for the people involved (except for Mama Smash - what a great
character, teaching her son the way to be a MAN.) And my goodness, is Maggie O'Connell aka Janine Turner great as a rich Texas suburban milf - she
absolutely played Mrs. Coach in that sweet, wonderful way those Texas ladies have.
I don't know where this is headed right now for any of the principle characters, and that's what makes FNL so good - the show makes you care and worry about these people. |

Loved Mama Smash. She could stand there and read the phonebook and I'd still like watching her.
This ep. was a big downer for everyone. As for the game, I anticipated that they were going to have Mattt screw up and then have the wonder boy come in and save the day. I found it interesting that they showed him doing well despite getting pounded, only to lose on the last play. Lila is such a clueless biotch. Tira's sister/mother should have just taken her down in a good ole cat fight. Coach is letting his pride get in the way of his good thinking. Though, wonder boy's dad is a prick. JT rocks almost as much as Mama Smash. |

At some point, something has to go right for my poor sweet baby Matt Saracen. It infuriated me to see wonder boy's dad and QB coach smiling when Matt
fumbled the ball in the end zone. Great ep though.

I didn't know this was back on NBC. Good thing the episodes were online.
So far, I'm liking this season much more than the last, although I'm kind of curious about some of the storylines. What happened to Smash's scholarship to Whitmore? Did they pull back after his knee injury? I thought it was an academic scholarship. If that's the case, I guess he didn't have the grades. While I'm talking about Smash, I'm going to miss his mother if she disappears after his story line is resolved. While Tami did what she thought was right in taking the jumbotron money and using it for academics instead, I can see why the boosters would be upset. They came up with the money with what they thought would be a jumbotron, but they hear about Tami make a unilateral decision about how she was going to use the money. Although Tami sems to have the final say, I think if the two parties were to get together and talk it out, things would've went a lot smoother. I do think it's ridiculous to have all that money for something that isn't needed like a jumbortron when teachers are getting laid off and better supplies are needed, but it's Texas where football is king. I don't like the way the QB controversy story is being played out. Matt has played well enough to keep his job, and in the last game he played his heart out and was getting beat up throughout, and if not for a controversial fumble call, they would've won. I can understand if Matt was struggling and the team was losing, but that hasn't been the case. Besides, if McCoy played, I don't think Dillon would've had a chance to be in the position to win. To see his father and QB coach smiling after Matt's fumble was disgusting. I don't see things ending well for Billy. Although I disliked him in the episode, by making Tim feel guilty about not helping him steal the copper wire, I like the way his character is being portrayed. He's just one of those guys who has good intentions, but things don't always work out as planned. I don't see him and Mindy lasting long together. |

HardEdge1980 wrote: I think that was the point. If Matt had totally botched it, the decision would be simple and he'd have been pulled at halftime. But that's a no-brainer, and not a compelling story (from our POV). Instead, he probably played the guttiest game of his career at Dillon and came up short. And the town is incensed. That made the "For Sale" signs and Coach's (and Matt's) sadness far more palpable. I think Coach, while just sitting on his bed with Mrs. Coach's arm around him, was a brilliantly tragic moment. He knew he was going to bench Matt now, and that Matt didn't deserve it, and he felt like absolute crap. And I think Matt knew he was going to be benched too. And in both cases, the people giving them consolation were a mom and her daughter. Anything else wouldn't have been up to the superb standards of this show. |

Loving this season. Great rebound from last season's CW-esque nonsense.
I really hope JD doesn't turn out to be Voodoo pt. 2. That's not interesting to me. What'll be interesting is if he ends up being a good kid which will make the dilemma of putting him in over Matt all the more complicated. He seemed to be embarrassed in his trophy room, and the fact that he was up there and not down with everyone else makes me think that he's not nearly the showy douche that his parents appear to be. Great to see Janine Turner back on my TV, even though she might be one of those passive-aggresssive trophy wife bitches that run rampant here in Dallas. :-D |

I hate Lila but I was on her side with the whole Nemo thing. Tyra's sister is a fucking joke. But not a sad joke like Tim's brother. You know what
might solve your money problems Billy, get a fucking job

Random thoughts:
Poor delusional Landry. I don't know what Tyra sees in that cowboy. He's kind of a dork. Grandma = evil mother in law back in the day. Who would have thought it? I hope Mama Smash continues to make appearances on the show. |

Cash is a hottie and he can come back anytime (I miss him as Casey). And I'm sure I'm the only one but I find Billy (the actor mind you) to be much
hotter than Tim. Much.
