Anyone who doesn't approach or leave the island properly eventually gets the nosebleed, goes nuts, and kicks the bucket. It almost happened to Desmond as well except that he found his "constant" and he was saved from death by nosebleed.


- why is the time shift so selective about what gets moved? No plants, no items, just some of the humans and the dog, and the raft, and whatever they're wearing. Uh-huh. How gloriously convenient. This may be the first major technical error in the show's history.

These are all "delta" of "difference" items that came to the island. In Star Trek speak they might exhibit a slight out of phaseness with the original island which keeps them and these items bound together in some quantum-paired manner, sort of like electrons travelling in a superconductor. I'd have more of an issue with the compass that was given to Locke. It should not transport in time and space with Locke since it resides in Mr. Eternally Youthful's domain.

The island seems to have existed in a different, or time shifted time than the rest of the world, but who knows when if ever that began to happen. Disappearing would imply a shift in space and/or time, and the poor shlubs who are time shifting appear to be only travelling in time since they seem to always pop into the same spot with each jump. Frankly I don't see why the island could be seen from the helicopter so easily, unless taking the proper path to the island includes some line of sight that also lets you see it. Faraday mentioned a "radius" that presumably sets the distance limit for items to move with or in tandem with the island, albeit in a different time reference. It would appear that the island can travel in both space and time and the people are limited to "orbiting" the island only in time. What a mess to explain the why!!

The predestination and not being able to change the past issue is interesting. My guess is that it will turn out that the Losties will be able to change the past and that it's not cast in stone as we have been lead to believe. Or as Faraday seemed to explain perhaps changing events in time is possible on a smaller scale as eddys in a stream but that in the long run the universe will self-correct by inducing other events to happen to compensate and negate these changed events. And that does not preclude the universe from causing ground hog day like time loops such that the correct outcome is resurrected after an almost infinite number of time loops until things happen the "correct" way. In the case of LOST the intial messing with of time (that could potentially go back to the big foot civilization ) caused a chain of events that extends all the way to the time of flight 815 and beyond, and that ultimately a time loop that returns back to the original event to correct or prevent it sets everything back on the correct course. That could mean that at the end of the show flight 815 never crashes because it never needed to crash to fix some screw up in the distant past. I don't think that a god is required in this context to maintain the predestination, although Jacob and some other components in the show are god-like or at the very least deity-like. I think what the producers are getting at is that destiny or the ability to change the future are both an illusion. Regardless of what anyone thinks or does the future will unfold in exactly one way and one way only. Even if you think you decided to change something you do, or take the path less travelled as it were, your decision to proceed along a certain path was going to happen anyway. So in the show there still appears to be a group of folks trying to do something that will avoid the destruction of the world, or planet, or universe, or whatever that are talking about. But their efforts in the long run may be effective or ineffective based on what's supposed to happen. The world may very well go kaplooey when LOST finally ends.

Gosh this show drives me nuts.
