I'm so old I remember the Wizard of Oz. I was 6 years old. I watched it with my mother in an old theater with an usher and fresh popcorn. T'was 1934.

Funny, Wizard of Oz wasn't made until 1939.

I remember getting 3 separate Dark Shadows board games on my birthday from different relatives. It had Barnabas Collins on the box, and when you opened it up
it came with a set of plastic vampire teeth. I still have the other 2 unopened and put away with my battery operated Lost in Space robot from 1969. I suppose
they might be worth something, but I refuse to even consider selling my childhood for a couple of bucks.
Funny, but I still have one of the original Radio Shack crystal radio kits when they first marketed it. |

I remember when we only received 4 tv channels AND we had to get up and walk to the tv to change them.

Speaking of old TV sets, I remember that noxious ozone smell that came from the back of them when they were left on for hours at a time. My parents bought
their first color set in 1973 and I discovered that I could warp the colors by moving a magnet over the screen. Little did I know that I would wind up ruining
the TV. My father was pissed.
While I'm still traveleing down memory lane, anyone else remember those tiny jukeboxes they kept on tables in diners? You'd scoot into a booth, order your food and while you waited you popped a dime into it and selected "The Night Chicago Died" (or at least I did).

Yep. Tony Orlando and Dawn were popular picks as well. My sister always chose "Billy Don't Be A Hero" over and over again and we'd all scream
at her.

I remember:
smudge pots - these were black round pots filled with kerosene and lite at night and placed on the side of the road to warn drivers of road construction Street signals that started flashing yellow after 11:00 at night (or flashing red on cross streets) Going to the picture show (we did not say movies) Not being able to shop on Sunday because stores were closed Writing a check for cash at the grocery store Paying all bills on the same day, by driving around town to the phone company, elec company, gas company etc. Going to get a hamburger was a special treat once a month no air conditioning in schools being spanked and grounded for a month for talking back to my mother. (I never did it again) |

Cartoons only came on Saturday morning, on Sunday morning you watched Wonderama. When you TV broke you pulled out all of the tubes and went to the drug store
and tested them all to find out which one needed to be replaced. The test pattern wasn't multicolored it was an indian chief. You used it to "fine
tune" your tv console.

I remember when CDs first came out. It was a big deal and the kid I knew who bought one threw it around the room and was like 'It won't break'. The
CD was White Lion. lol. Snickers were like $.25 then. Going to McDonalds once every few months was a really big deal. And every waking moment was spent outside
playing.
