Clay and his fans burned A LOT of bridges at the beginning of his career and in the end that is what has cost Clay a real shot at mainstream success on radio. That's my opinion anyway. The DJs are used to crazy fans, and I'm not convinced that it was all his fans making calls and writing letters. I'm sure there were a few overly invested fans but I don't think they did even half of it. I have seen with my own eyes where Ruben's fans planned and executed their campaigns to ruin Clay through the writing of letters to DJs and critics. They even bragged about writing racist letters posing as Claymates and bashing Ruben. One letter went to Star Jones at The View and the other went to Oprah. Those were only 2 they specifically mentioned. When called on it, emach, the ringleader, admitted it. She was proud of what they did. Someone posted all of that stuff they saved on a blog to expose their dirty campaigns. No wonder we are bitter.

Clay also EARNED better promo since both his first 2 albums were over platinum, but his 3rd one got shafted and the 4th even worse. His first 2 combined earned RCA 40 million dollars, that should buy some pretty great promo. Other artists who sell a lot less are treated better than Clay. After his Christmas cd and tour, RCA know his career would be dead if the rumors came to light. So, why spend money on someone who's fanbase was questionable and very hard to market to the mainstream.

I think they should've marketed him like a Josh Groban/Michael Buble type artist instead of trying to shove him into the Top 40 box where he clearly never fit. I think the picture would've been better on a more muted background but it's certainly eye catching and really that's what you want when promoting an album.

Unless I dreamed it, didn't Clay put out a blog to his fans not to bug the pop radio stations about playing his songs because it was never going to happen, and instead go with the AC route. He said once you get your song played on AC, it stays there, like forever. I think it was smart at the time, because he knew where the best place was to get his music played and heard, which in turn would result in greater CD sales and exposure. Back to Kelly, I am so frickin excited to hear her first single, just 2 more days.

That coat is horrible though but it's better than the orange beast she used to wear I guess LOL....
