I was on board with downgrading acts that were more acrobatics and no dance. I thought the (?Australian) contemporary dancer was overscored. He was not as good as Allison or Danny of SYTYCD IMO.

Plus, shhhhhh.... we never actually saw the scores for the dances I saw. Wait - what? Are you saying that the scores are edited in later, cuz that would confirm my suspicion that some of the scoring is based on "Well fine, if you are gonna give the dancers from my country a 7, then I am gonna give your dancers a 7." Well, everyone except the Chinese judge, whom it appears, speaks no English aside from 'ba-eight'. Which is both funny & annoying, could of knocked me over with a feather the first time he threw up a nine.

First of all, I love Indian dancing. I loved indian dancing before I even saw this show. So I was very happy to see dancers from India. I think the only judge with a good sense of anything was the South African judge, but I think the Argentinian judge is very sassy. And for anyone who said that they didn't like close ups of the faces hasn't realized that the dancers put on expressions as part of their dance. For instance, with the second Indian soloist you would never know she turned her eyes one way and then turned her eyes the other way in the same direction as her head. And the South african soloist whose dance was about a frustrated housewife, had alot of facial expressions going on. I hate the tiebreaker at the end. It was so obvious that the majority were going to choose that popper guy, even though I personally don't consider that dancing, at least not in the traditional sense. Popping is a fairly new dance. They chose America because this is an American show taking place in America so there was bias there. Unless of course they were urged to choose America by the producers.

There were no marks given before the live audience... directly AFTER they performed.

Looks like Unca made a few pre-show "suggestions" to certain panel-people. I was glad to see that the Irish jidge gave the lady tapper props and a good score. I figured he, at least would be able to appreciate the talent, sense of joy, and proficiency she showed in that performance.

And was not surprised by Michael Flatley's very very poor hosting capabilities. They should leave it up to his pageant co-host, she has potential. The judging is odd, with 7 judges. On the very happy side of things seeing Kelly as the Aussie judge. She choreographed some great routines and judged on SYTYCD Australia, and now just saw that HENRY is their rep for ballroom duo dance. He had one of the most exciting dance routines of all SYTYCD franchises: So far fast forwarded through the Argentine gumbos.. seriously, that is NOT dance. And am very over celtic dance from Ireland. The Indian woman was good. Back to watch more...

Too many gimmicky dance acts. Either you make it a dance show or a martial arts/acrobatics show, and not both. Best performance was definitely the Groovaloos! Some sick stuff in their choreography. They should be on ABDC with the other crews, it would be fun to watch them with other crews. Most over rated... Australian solo contemporary, it was meh. I heard them say Reed and thought they said Rhys and would have been much more excited to see him solo representing Australia. Best single performance was south african woman.. wow, she was intense and moved incredibly well. Biggest disappointment, well besides the fact that Michael Flatley and any celtic dancing is allowed to appear on the show, was the Bollywood group dance. I think they should have had Katee and Joshua and the Canadian SYTYCD troupe perform their Bollywood routines. They were much better at the routines than this group was, which is sad. Some of the SYTYCD alumni I noticed on the show: besides Australia's Kelly and Henry as ballroom rep The choreographer for Indian dance Nygul? choreographed Katee and Josh's famous bollywood And of course Nigel Lythgoe's favorite popper Robert Muraine. I think Robert was lucky he had Nigel in his back pocket and made it past the first round.

It is quite clear that they were doing the same thing done at my taping throughout: get several reaction shots from the dancers and audience WITHOUT judging, and then place one in during editing that seems somewhat adequate.

Night two, the judging was WAAAAAY harsher than night one (esecially early in the night). Most of the acts who went home were from night two, and the ones from night one that were cut (such as the Indian duo) were truly bad and deserved to be cut. I thought that Pasha and Anya were robbed they were the best pairs dancers from any country. The American duo was second best. They were robbed, too. Also, the Russian team was robbed. They may not have been the best, but they were DEFINITELY better than at least two of the teams that made it through (Australia? Bitch, please! What they did wasn't even a group number, but rather a series of individual or duo performances tied together with people running onto/off of the stage.) Other acts (the Irish team, the first Argentine soloist, the first Indian soloist, the Aussie contemporary guy) were way, WAY overrated! burnettfollower wrote: I hate the tiebreaker at the end. Supposedly, they want to show us that International Dance is more than traditional and folk dance... then they show just that. On the other hand, they then have some countries show a variety of styles that are not traditional. How the Hell does one properly judge apples against oranges, anyway?

Why not go the whole 9 yards and make everyone dress up?? The show's already ridiculous, what's a little more foolishness?

The Chinese judge is kind of a joke as well, saying nothing more than his score in cantonese and english. And it should be about dance not acrobatics and tricks. The show could have some potential, as there is some spectacular dancing mixed in with the lousy trick acts (and sorry, but that has to include Muraine). Dance is about feeling and moving to music, and just about not about throwing chains, lanterns, swords or partners around.

I'm pretty happy with who got booted, overall. The only ones I'm bummed about are the Russian group dancers & India's pair that did the Bollywood. Let me tell you, when that Argentinian judge started to choke up when she was speaking of her 3 months in South Africa and the things she saw -- I started to choke up. sniff sniff I love the Russian & Chinese judges. They need their own show, something like "Adventures of Smirnov & Master Wang." Between the jokes from Smirnov and the monotone delivery by Master Wang of the number just cracks me up. My rankings: Solos: 1. India #2 (she deserved 9s & 10s, not 8s) 2. India #1 3. So. Africa #2 (intense & raw) 4. Russia #2 (Ballerina was lovely) 5. So. Africa #1 (I wish he wasn't eliminated) 6. Australia #2 (although his shirt was distracting, the weird way it was ripped) Pairs: 1. Argentina - That Spicy Tango 2. Russia - Pasha/Anya <3<3<3 3. So. Africa - The lifts were exquisite & they had the connection, I wish there was more dance. 4. India - They weren't in synch, but I would have preferred them being saved over the U.S. pair, since their act was not dance at all. Group: 1. USA 2. India 3. Ireland 4. So. Africa (although, it reminded me too much of stomp, but their vocals bumped them higher on my list) 5. Russia (they were robbed - China's monks should have been booted for not really being "dance") 6. Australia

I kind of watched it on its second night, but was more interested in the drama of "The Bachelor". I saw enough of Superstars of Dance to offer this apology to Samantha Harris - Sam, I did not think it possible that there could be a hostess anywhere to match you - but then I saw "Susie". I also like the Argentinian judge, she really reminds me of a co-worker. Outspoken Latin American women and Spanish women are awesome.

(unfortunate acronym for your name) Agree with liking the Argentinian judge. Lithgoe has to put her on the American show somehow, if she is a choreographer, bring her on. She is gold. And ya, TIVO or PVR is definitely needed for this show. And hearing that Pasha and Anya were on the first show makes me wish I would have not missed taping the show.
