I already thought this....but that interview supports my feelings that I bet we won't even have any 18 or 19 years olds. 18 year olds - I HIGHLY doubt. 19
years olds - MAYBE 1 hot girl kinda deal.

I've lived in several college towns, and I just don't see the melting of the ages here. Maybe Auburn is different, but I don't know how many
school principals interact with college aged kids. There is a very distinct bubble concept that exists on a lot of college campuses where the students stick
to themselves and avoid the "townies."
But argue the point if you must. Spilman has already noted that it's most likely not going to happen - Debbie wouldn't be playing against teenagers anyway. |

I won't argue it - unless a towny is very socially outgoing with strangers they do tend to shop and eat in the midst of younger people without speaking to
them, in my experience. Looked at from another angle, though, the people who settle in college towns are often those who enjoy being around that kind of young,
cultural, socially involved vibe. Coffee houses and independent bookstores and pho restaurants and whatnot. I would point to people's exhibit A: the first
photo of her, where she's posing with a book on youth digital culture. Supporting: Her young appearence, not un-sexy clothes and makeup. I'd read her
as the kind of smart, socially adept hipster who never quite left college, in spirit and in this case literally. Reading people's personalities based on
photographs and a few facts is only slightly more accurate a science than reading tea leaves but there you go.

So it's not like they jump at it because they look at is as 15 minutes; the really good ones, the ones you really want, are the hardest ones to get to do the show," she told me.I understand they're looking for good characters and whatnot, but what's the point if they don't really want to be there in the first place? |

I can't complain, the casts have been awesome recently.

Agreed, after the drought of classic characters from Palau, Guatemala, Cook Islands, and Fiji the last three have been very well put together.

I largely agree about Guatemala, but the other seasons definitely had their share of classic characters, and Cook Islands was actually one of my favorite casts of all time. Here's some people I would consider classic characters from those seasons: Bobby Jon Candice Cao-Boi Dreamz Earl Ian Jonathan Penner Michelle Yi Ozzy Parvati Stephenie Tom Westman Yau-Man Yul That's 14 people, without even including Guatemala. And actually, in fairness to the casting people, Guatemala actually had a lot of interesting people too---it was just that most of them got voted off early. |

Bobby Jon
Candice Cao-Boi Dreamz Earl Ian Jonathan Penner Michelle Yi Ozzy Parvati Stephenie Tom Westman Yau-Man Yul Besides Penner, the vast majority of that cast was bland and boring. Parv only became interesting when she came back to do Micronesia! You honestly think that's the best you can do from those seasons? |

I think recently the casting has been good at finding diverse characters, but not trying too hard at it. In seasons past, sometimes it's been painfully
obvious when they tried to mix things up. That's not the case now in my opinion. Gabon had many different personalities that came together very well. So
did Micronesia, although on a different level than Gabon. Gabon wasn't perfect, but casting was definitely not one of its flaws.

It's not that Lynne Spillman hasn't always been capable of a home run (Penner in the Cooks, Yao Man in Fiji) but her batting average had been steadily
declining. The low point was Micronesia because even though she had some good Favorites to work with and the game turned out very dramatically, the only new
casting she did - the Fans - was pathetic. Last season, like a fat aging slugger on a new protein diet she unexpectedly rebounded. I do see a reason for
optimism. I think this season (and you can see the precursor in China) the producers started taking the series' production more seriously than they had in
a while. They switched to HD. They've now chosen three untraditional locations out of four. And at the same time, their casting has turned out better.
I'd like to think that with Mark Burnett's long non-existent enthusiasm at the top the pre-production had become brutally lackluster during the Panama,
Exile Island period and that for whatever reason there's now someone awake at the wheel again. But I don't think we'll now for at least another
season whether to consider this a period of improvement or just a couple of isolated successes.

There were just a few posts about casting and which seasons turned out memorable characters, in response to an interview with Lynne Spillman about casting that was posted. You're the only person who's mentioned All-Stars 3.

Bobby Jon That's only 14 people out of 77. Do the opposite and name those who were totally useless and forgettable. And then compare it with a cast like Outback where almost everyone was a stand out character out of a simple cast of 16. |
