Oh man Lilasu. I lived in Bellingham for 3 years wayyyyyyyyy back in the late 80's. I feel for you. Beautiful, but when it get's hit is really gets
hit. I remember being without water for days after a storm because the plumbers just couldn't get to us. We melted snow on the stove in order to flush
the toilets. Jebus.

Seattle made the NY Times for having snow. Our "media" can now be gratified for their endless "snow" coverage. Why does Seattle make the news and not Portland? We have had snow, then freezing rain, and more snow. I tried to measure the depth and my ruler wouldn't go through the half inch of ice. I think it's nearing a foot (and I live at the lower elevation where we normally don't get much snow). My garbage wasn't picked up last week and I doubt if they will make it tomorrow. I am running out of kitty litter since my outdoor cat has actually been using the litter box. I want our Northwest RAIN!!! Seattle:

I've been here since '89, and I lived up on South Hill during the '96 dump. THAT was fun. No water, no electricity and more than 2 feet of snow.
*laugh* I love it here though. And we haven't been as unlucky as we could have been with this weather. I think the Everett area got it worse.

I lived on High Street. I remember we had to basically board up all the bedrooms and nail blankets over all the windows. We hunkered down in the living room
and kitchen. I think that was 88 or 89. People couldn't even let their dogs outside it was so cold. I had to build this messed up enclosure off the back
door, rubberband socks and plastic bags on my dog's paws just to let her go outside and pee twice a day. Ah memories....

I lived in two different places on High street, in college. One of them was that place right at the top, in the little corner where High and Indian meet. I
fell in the snow and broke my arm there. Ah, county from hell. hehe. I think last week was as cold as I've ever been here.

Lots of produce was gone or almost gone. I had to pick through about a half-dozen onions that were left on the shelf to find one that wasn't gross. And no green onions for my corn chowder. *pout* Dinner is ruined! |

My son in Bellingham says the freeways are ok, it's just the side streets. He works at the Applebees up there, and has been making it to and from work; he
lives in downtown.
Tomorrow looks like his best shot to get home. We have begged him to buy chains, but he won't. So I told him to text me when he leaves so I know when to start worrying. |

I grew up in Seattle before it became the "city" it is now. I have lived in Portland for decades (yes, I'm old) and would never move back to Seattle. We may have "Seattle Envy," but we know we're better. Why does Seattle make the news and not Portland?Because it's Portland. Here is a ten year old article from our local alternative paper (the only change since 1998, we still have the Blazers): http://wweek.com/html/leada102898.html

So you told him to text you while he is driving home? There are better ways to save money on Christmas presents.

ETA: I think Portland is beautiful. I would love to live there, but my husband unfortunately works for Boeing. |

I used to live in Bellingham too! I loved it there. The summers there are awesome. I loved hiking up to the Sehome Arboretum and climbing to the top of the
lookout.

OK, the Seattle metro area has almost one million more people than the Portland areathis is why seattle is a city-proper, and portland is in the little leagues. |

If we end up driving down, it will be on Wednesday afternoon. I'm 37 and my mom still makes me call before I leave. *laugh* And when I get back home
here too.

I grew up on Bainbridge Island and way back in the day the only store was the little Thriftway in Winslow. Every time there was a snow storm it was like the
hordes descended. Place was picked dry. We lived right up from the ferry terminal so we'd bundle up and take the sled down there. Ah memories.

THERE IS NO GAS OR FOOD SHORTAGE.. but the media does NOT report that.. no it reports from white neighborhoods like Queen Anne, Greenwood and the like about
the cute sledders, the spinning tires and the other absurd shit that morons from Seattle think IMPORTANT.
I never see a media truck in South Seattle, I bet many Seattle natives have never heard of Judkins Park or Hillman City cause "black people" live there!!!!! And those are communities who believe this shit and are at Safeway for three hours worried about food shortages.... fucking nuts. But lets see what is going on in West Seattle.. oh look a fucker sliding down the hill..... |
