Seriously, the strategic gameplay of this season was really, really bad.

The only players who looked like they could do anything strategically correctly were Jacquie and Charlie, and they got screwed by the swap and Ken's being a little bitch about the idol, respectively, so we didn't even really see if they were strong strategic players (Jacquie did have multiple secret alliances going and Charlie seems to have understood how the social game works based on post-show interviews, but they were chopped before they had the chance to really do anything). Crystal and Ken SHOULD have switched, but they couldn't have afforded to take any Kota to the finals based on the jury construction, so they would have had to convince Sugar of an f3, which Crystal's social game failed at. Bob was handed the win for being the last kota standing and fang being too stupid to get rid of a jury threat. Pretty much every other player CONSTANTLY screwed up in one way or another (Sugar was sabotaging her own game so much that she ended up making the finals), except maybe Susie, who probably played the most well rounded game (if you include luck, otherwise I would say that Jacquie did). The immense number of idiotic mistakes combined with the circumstances handed Bob the win.

I would say that the biggest shortcoming in terms of strategy this season was the social game. Only Charlie and Jacquie really seemed to know how to actively keep people placated and keep the targets off their backs, it's just really bad luck that Jacquie got swapped and Charlie accidently saw the note, not realizing that Ken had already seen it. Without those two instances of bad luck, one of those two are incredibly likely to win the game, given that every other player pissed everybody else off at some point or another. Even likable old Bob and Susie talked too much.

The casual fan gets completely duped by the "nice old man" edit, even though (according to randy), the guy is a little senile, which would not surprise me whatsoever. But yea, having this "good guy" win over the "evil people" like Corrine, Randy, Crystal, and Ken certainly helps in terms of Survivor's longevity.

If that were the case, then why do they keep casting girls who look good in bathing suits? I think that a certain group of fans (older ones, people with families, etc) love the provider and honest guy types, whereas younger fans tend to go for the hot girls and guys in bathing suits (girls are obviously advertised more, but there is a reason that Marcus got recruited for being the #1 bachelor in Georgia for some magazine).
