I was anxious for Jamie. I want her to stick around. I thought the judges were insane to give her grief over how she presented on camera. PUH-lease! This is "Top Chef" NOT "Be the Next TV Chef". Why would they expect her to be perfect at it? And to be upset that she stepped away and crossed her arms-- AFTER her time was up, and pretending that she would still be on the air? And if Rocco were indeed on the air, would he actually say "Ok, eek, Im going to eat raw egg"? Wouldnt he keep that to himself?? If he has no right saying that on air, then how can he moan at Jamie for backing away after he said that?
It was just a crazy set of standards. And Colicchio is saying that this is a "straightforward" challenge. In what way??? Straight forward is-- cook something within some parameter. Not figure out what would be prepared in 2 minutes AND how you are going to explain it and show it, while also being asked distracting questions. Its one thing if the person were left alone to cook and explain, like a Julia Childs' show. Its another to have your explanation prepared and be interrupted with questions, while cooking with a teensy time limit. What is straightforward about this?
Giant.Red.Ecks!
Jamie's egg was undercooked because she chose to finish within her time limit rather than peter out with an unfinished dish. In the world of TV, that is the RIGHT DECISION and puts her way ahead of each and every chef who ran out of time. Any one of them should have automatically been in the bottom three ahead of her if the standard was how they performed for the Today show presentation. If that is not the case and the FOOD was the the important criterion, then they could have taken away the time limit and Jamie would (obviously) have served a perfectly-cooked egg. Her being bottom three was a HUGE injustice!
