Shawn Ryan got a bit too cute at the end.

He wanted to tweak the Vic Mackey fanboys by making him into a rat in the final episode, since Vic fans had been saying for the past 7 seasons that it was okay for Vic to kill Terry since he was a rat. And Shane killed Lem to protect his family, so he had Vic for all intents and purposes kill Ronnie to protect his family. So anyone who hated Shane was now a hypocrite if they kept rooting for Vic.

The problem is that nothing in the previous 88 episodes suggested that Vic would ever do that in a million years. He told Lem's lawyer that if she could swing a deal to put him in jail and keep Lem out, that she should do it.

So Vic could have easily gotten immunity for Corrine in exchange for Beltran, without dragging Ronnie into the shit. Then they could have kept hunting for Shane on their own time, or lied to Shane and told him they already had full immunity, or even help Shane and Mara get out of the country. The usual Vic Mackey schemes.

All three of those scenarios would have been more believable than Vic suddenly m.orphing into Terry Crowley in the final episode.

That's even putting aside the fact that Olivia agreed to give Vic immunity without even finding out what she was immunizing him against (wouldn't she be curious to know why Vic was so anxious to get immunity, especially after she had his file at her home?) She had to know he was probably guilty of more than just jaywalking or unpaid parking tickets.

Eh, what are you going to do? It is what it is. It's probably one of those endings that works best if you don't analyze it too much. If Jack Bauer can strain believability to save the world, I guess we can give Vic Mackey the same benefit of the doubt.

There were !@%!$ of relief mixed with his !@%!$ of disbelief.

"The whole thing is just so shitty" seems to indicate that Ronnie was crying t.ears of sadness, mingled with t.ears of relief for his own situation (short-lived as that relief was).

As for Vic, don't worry. If he forgets to refill the ICE coffeepot or takes someone's sandwich from the lunch room, Olivia will be there to pounce on him.

I wonder if they'll let him join the ICE softball team.

The other thing to keep in mind is, Vic is probably going to be facing a huge civil lawsuit from Terry's family.

If Olivia or Claudette don't leak Vic's confession, I'm sure Ronnie will be more than happy to write the Crowleys a letter detailing all of Vic's crimes.

So Vic is going to be paying a boatload of cash to the Crowleys, which means that when his contract is up in 3 years, he will likely be moving from a cubicle to the drive-thru window at the local Burger King.

Well, Shane's advice for the girl at the shop counter was a nice summation of the entire point of the show:

"Don't let the wrong guy get his hooks into you."

Shane and Ronnie were loyal to the wrong person.

Dutch and Claudette are an example of being loyal to the right person. I think Dutch/Claudette are the best platonic relationship on television since Mulder and Scully (before they hooked up).
