The TC where she got voted out was the first time I was ever crushed in Survivor, because I thought super-hateable Kathy was going home. And then I knew she was going to win after that and buy Gina her Alaskan home! And then she didn't at the F3 and Survivor sucked.

Supposedly Jeff Probst had some sort of huge crush on Gina (she was the original Julie). And the night that she got voted out, he supposedly went off on the Maraamus. After Tribal Council ended, he supposedly turned off the cameras and called Paschal, Neleh, and Kathy big hypocrites for leading her on like she had a chance, and then voting her out 3-1. He went all Rory on them and said it was classless. I've also heard people say that the only reason the Marquesas switch happened when it did was to save Gina. After Hunter, she would have been next. Again, both of these are just rumors, but I've heard them several times from some generally reputable sources. It appears that Gina was quite the favorite among the crew members. Anyway, here's a picture of Gina holding my son Nicholas. I met her at a benefit brunch back in 2003 and she was super nice. Very friendly, but kind of shy. Unlike most of the Survivors (Lex, Tom, etc), you had to go up and talk to her. She said she loved kids, so we got a picture of her holding our 5 month old. By the way, do you know which other castaways were super nice and said they loved babies? Sarah Jones and Rob Mariano. You wouldn't expect it from her, but Sarah spent a lot of time on the floor playing with our son. I stupidly, however, forgot to get a picture of it. Here's Gina:

I loved Gina; Survivor rarely casts girl next door-types that aren't totally saturated and one-note. Maybe Gina was too and I just overlooked it because I've always found her to be one of the most attractive Survivors ever, but she always seemed a lot tougher than the majority of them. I've also heard people say that the only reason the Marquesas switch happened when it did was to save Gina. After Hunter, she would have been next. John Carroll swears this is true; he may have even said something about it during his post-boot interviews (if not, he definitely did before Thailand premiered). And it wouldn't surprise me at all if Probst did lay into the Maraamus; in one of those Comcast "Question of the Week" bits he singled out Gina as the player who was voted out too soon.
