I know someone who works there and they do indeed train them to card anyone that looks 20 years from the legal age. They are also randomly tested on this.
I had an occasion where I found myself getting cigarettes from there a few months ago. Sure enough, I got carded. I giggled, and showed them my ID. I think I look my age. There was a foreign lady in line behind me who said loudly, "How old do you gotta be to buy cigarettes here!?" LOL...I nearly peed my pants. |

most places just ask for the birthdate now, to punch into the register. |

I don't know if this is the case at Walmart, but the trend among corporate retail is to take discretion away from their employees, so if someone buys
something with an age restriction, the cashier is obligated to ask for ID. Many employees will blow it off if the person is obviously of age, but the WalMarts
of the world don't want to be liable if some mom goes ballistic because her 16 year old buys an R-rated movie or some nasal decongestant. If WalMart can
say "We have a policy that anyone who buys an R-rated movie and decongestant must be carded, and here is proof or our policy and training procedures"
it can often shield itself from liability for the actions of its idiot employees.

They have to card you if you look under a certain age (27 for some things, 40-something for others).

Yuck. The States is fucking batshit crazy with ID'ing, Canookia is better. I'm still young and I only get ID'd for alcohol only half the time.
Never been ID'd for a movie either.

During my recent trip to DC, I got carded at a restaurant. I didn't have it with me so they wouldn't serve me eventho I defo look 40ish.
So we left...Fuckers. ETA...and Walmart sucks balls. I'd rather pay the extra buck for something at Target. |

this crap happens because of a case in Kansas where a girl was carded drinking in a bar. She was underage and busted. Her defense lawyer successfully argued
that it was an illegal request because they were profiling based off of age. So now they have to card everyone, even if they look 100.

I stopped shopping there because I was always getting falsely accused of shoplifting and the employees are too stupid to live. Instead of helping me when I was
looking for something, they would follow me around and try to block my path. The last straw was when I waited for an old lady to let me into the change rooms
and she let everyone behind me into the change rooms and not me.

I only get carded for alcohol, not for buying R movies or if I want to buy a lottery ticket. Most of the gay bars I go to are out of state so they always shine
that blue light on it to make sure I am actually 21.
