Sugar - UTR, left on the sideline and hidden, but her story, aka the idol, kept in focus Randy - I don't know. He was part CP but so much OTT for me, I voted OTT. Gfic will convince me whatever he thinks. How does Sugar have an MORDiff like that? Wow. Matty's is fine. Look who's been off the chart all season... Then again, Cirie did this last season. RVS, I agree that we have a pretty loosey- goosey tone system. What makes someone Negative?: Bad game play? Bad SPV? Just plain nasty talk? All of the above? Your points about Susie and Marcus are good ones.

I just find it odd with the ratings that Susie gets OTTN the week before because she had naive gameplay and someone wanted to stab her in the face, but Marcus has worse gameplay and arrogance on top of that, but doesn't get a N rating.

Well, I totally disagree (and from Phoenix's data it looks like 11% of voters game him an N). Neutral was the appropriate tone rating. I didn't find Marcus negative when I watched the episode (and my first watch is generally what I use for tone ratings). Throughout the season I've found him very clinical in his approach to the game, and this episode was no different - his thinking on why to get rid of the idol was well reasoned - it's only with the wisdom of hindsight that it became questionable. He tried to form a relationship with Crystal after the switch and he tried to keep Susie onside - it didn't work, but that hardly makes him negative. Calling it bad gameplay is symptomatic of some Sucks posters who use 20/20 hindsight and the small amount of footage that we're shown to make ill-informed criticisms of the strategy used by contestants (the LTS forum is full of this type of drivel). Susie gives reasonable confessionals all season (when she gets the chance to say anything) and then we have Corinne screaming that she wants to split her face open and all of Kota agreeing that she's nuts. I gave Susie an N for the wave of negative comments, but in hindsight, she had no confirmation for such negative labels. Would it have been better to give the Ns to the Onions for the N comments? Probably. Maybe a hint was given when Randy spoke of "annoying" Bob. Bob? Annoying? No it's Randy who's annoying and Corinne who's psycho. I'm claiming guilt and own the flaws in my ratings. Edgic calls for objectivity, which is nearly impossible to pull off. Not to mention hindsight is 20-20. But, as the stats show, (both the standard Edgic stats and pastordice's Cheeseburger), Edgic isn't wrong. We simply picked the wrong person out of the stats. Marcus was boringly pat, disgustingly perfect. We all, I think, felt like the editors were becoming too easy to read. After the run of male winners from Earl on, it was obvious that they were trotting out the same tired edit, only worse. Well, we got duped. Which I think those of us who do this for the intellectual challenge are stoked about. How this now plays out has us on the edge of our chairs again and next season is looking a lot more interesting. So much for yawning and eye-rolling at the stupid, lazy editors.

It's a clear N, and I didn't think it would be hard to ascertain in this episode. His arrogance was palpable to me. On another note, I am ready to post the notes I took on Matty and Kenny. I have quick hitting analysis, but I'll bet a few things are clear upon examination. Michael

Professional gamers are stereotyped as antisocial, nerds. Girls don't dig that. He is shy back at home, 5 years since he kissed a girl. He is now here with an attractive girl. Every one warned Matty about trust, idols, and where Kenny knows not to trust, Matty can't help himself. If Sugar bit the apple and is Eve, the snake eventually tempts Eve and she gets Adam and herself evicted. This is Survivor and the snake can prevail. Through your findings, I realize that Sugar (if she is the one to be Eve rather than Corinne) will be an integral part of the showdown between Matty and Ken. How will it play out? A further clue might lie in something that you've omitted from your precis but which stood out from the tribe-swap pick. Before Kenny picks Kelly, he is shown to be asking Matty for his opinion and it is Matty who is sub-titled as nominating Bob. It's a very manipulated camera angle and audio (for all we know, someone else may have suggested Bob and Matty may have just said something like "you're as thick as a log". All of which leads me to think (as it probably does Phoenix) that Bob will have a role to play in the showdown, especially after the earlier footage between him and Sugar. Thanks again for the terrific work.

I saw Kenny reason that Bob is likely to stick with the Kotas, Ace and Jacquie (I think is was subtitled, too, but don't hold me to that, and I don't have time to look now) and I guess my take was is was more showing Kenny reasoning that he wanted to go for the last pick, Ace resisted to protect Sugar hoping she'd be picked (and he hated Kelly), and with Bob still there, to continue the "inept Fang" story when he picks Kelly. It was less Matty specifically saying anything, than Ken picking from the bottom up. But maybe I overlooked Matty there. I'm open to review that. Where did I put flf's headphones? Michael

There are some valid points for mild negativity, but on the other hand the poor guy was screwed by a twist, and naively put his faith in a distant family relationship with Crystal who responded like a cynical gamer. I believe the Susie N for ep.7 to be even more justified in hindsight, given that Corinne was right. Corinne's "negativity" towards her was emphasized for the sake of foreshadowing. Some tone decisions are only resolvable in retrospect. Ep.8 was overall one of the most toneless or balanced we've had this season.

Similarly, the main argument for Ken avoiding INV in episode 3 was the slow-motion replay of his come-from-behind challenge win.
