Today people who never felt like they belonged, can at least hope to finally matter and achieve anything.People always could have felt that if they had let themselves. Maybe they should have taken Oprah's advice and read "The Secret". People of colour have held influential positions in U.S. government for decades. They've been sports heroes, box office icons, music chart toppers, religious leaders, best-selling authors, popular television personalities, educational leaders, military leaders and business leaders.
my God you ARE stupid! if you want to downplay the historical impact the election of Barack Obama then so be it but NO ONE with a pair of eyes and a brain can dismiss the struggles and pain of an entire race of people. and it's not JUST the blacks who see this as a victory, it is ALL non-whites in this country who for 300+ years were made to feel as if maybe they weren't full Americans.
Ok, you win. Simply because someone with a bit more pigment in their skin got elected President, people can finally think they matter and achieve something in their lives. On Monday, they didn't matter and it was impossible for them to achieve a damn thing. Today they matter and can achieve whatever they want.
