Far from it: now, only Connecticut (on 11/12/08) and Massachusetts allow it. Civil unions are permitted in New Hampshire, New Jersey, and Vermont, and Domestic Parternships are allowed in DC, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Oregon, and Washington.Also, New York now recognizes them from other states, but still does not perform them there.
So I don't get why it's such a big deal. I don't get how non-Californians are fussing over this when the rest of America isn't allowing it either.
The big difference with California is that same-sex marriages WERE allowed, and thousands got married, and now they are taking them AWAY. It's one thing to ban something from happening n the future, but much more serious to take away something that was already legal.
