We can't know what the deal-breaker was, until & unless Powell himself tells us. And chances are he won't reveal ALL the reasons because the talks are covered by confidentiality. So, what I got from it was that originally he intended to serve only one term, but then he was willing to stay longer under certain conditions, and when those conditions weren't met, he resigned.
Where does the idea of Powell being a war criminal come from? |

Interesting that you feel the need to post to the thread, even just for that. Is someone forcing you to open this thread?
I mean, you're most welcome to post in order to add to the conversation, but there are plenty of other threads to play in. |

AMAI, since you're a fan of the original Zeitgeist movie, perhaps you can give your opinion of the new Zeitgeist Addendum, which
proposes we do away with the profit incentive (aka capitalism) in favor of resource incentives and technological self-sufficiency.
The funniest part of the movie is how they portray all politicians as corrupt .. except one. Can you guess which politician it is (starts with an R)? |

Why does this AMAI have to write these long posts in order to make herself feel accepted. It's sad to look at.

I'll check it out, SF. Thanks for the link. Mr AMAI has already noted there's another movie, and I think he has it teed up on his computer. I'll
remind him to run it for us.
Anyone who doesn't care to read my posts is welcome to post in every single OTHER thread. I honestly don't care if you don't post in my thread. |

QUESTION FOR THE DAY
What do you personally see as the best reason(s) for the tax system? |

My favorite question so far. You'll have to give me time. I think khnum gave me the flu. I shall return much to his adorably apparent dismay.

AMAI, how do objectivists determine what is an 'objective' crime, or fact for that matter? What about Fraud? This would be relevant to your apparent
opinion that doctors shouldn't be regulated.

Those who do not want to be taxed should go somewhere else where they can not benefit from all the good that taxes produce. YW |

Goosehead wrote:Crime is the violation of right(s) of others by force or fraud. Rights are objectively determinable. The right to life is the most basic and the rights to liberty, property and pursuit of happiness are corolloraies: a colloquial ways of saying: "the right to self-sustaining and self-generated action in support, furtherance, fulfillment and enjoyment of one's own life." Rights are intended to secure freedom of action in a social context, which means freedom from coercion, physical compulsion and interference. Remington, all crimes are variations on the basic theme. The details of what was done might be new but the same basic idea is always there. It always involves some kind of initiation of force. Kidnapping is taking and holding someone against their will. It is possible to decide whether a given action constitutes a crime by working out whether force was used. Fraud is a kind of force: it is false information or false pretenses. If someone makes an agreement with you to buy your car, drives off in it and the cheque bounces, he has taken your car fraudulently. Someone who promises a fabulous car, but delivers a car full of problems after having taken your money, and it's full of problems, would also be guilty of fraud. A doctor, like anyone else, is subject to that same basic laws and prohibitions. |
