Thx a lot Nancy Pelosi knew the numbers and that it wouldn't pass, she knew she had 60-70 Republicans voting for it. But she put it up for vote anyway. Usually you wait until you have the votes, especially for something this big. She couldn't convince 65-70% of her own party to vote her way.

The Republicans are using Pelosi's speech as an excuse for not voting for it. They're also using it so they can each individually show how they "bucked" Bush come election time. Bush is an anvil around the neck for these yes-men Republicans, so they want to distance themselves from him as much as possible, and this is a high profile "fuck you" to him. Unfortunately, these fucks are playing with OUR economy.

As you see from the quote above your post, and as is consistent with the comments made by the Repub. House leadership a couple minutes ago, it was the House Republicans who did not live up to their end of the bargain. They mislead their president and the American people and NOW have the nerve to blame it on Nancy Pelosi for being bipartisan in her speech ---- so one of the most important votes they will EVER cast in their Congressional careers -- they switched at the last minute because their feelings were hurt. That's what the House Repub. Leaders are telling you what happened. That's what they want you to believe. Besides, they had to vote today because everybody has to Rush-ah home-ah for Roshashannah

Democrats believe in the free market, which can and does create jobs, wealth, and capital, but left to its own devices it has created chaos. Pelosi's words are maddening. The Bush Administration did not create this problem. Bush has urged Congress multiple times to deal with the Fannie/Freddy problem throughout his administration. And Dems do NOT believe in the free market. How does she have the gall to even say that? It was Dem regulation, some of it going back decades, that led us to this financial precipice. I say, let the chips fall where they may, and let all the guilty parties, in both Congress and in the financial markets, face the music. We cannot reward the same bozos who got us into this mess by allowing them to take over the financial world forevermore. There may be tough times ahead. But America has seen worse, and we'll get through this too.

Posts: 1767 (09/29/08 1:07 PM) Registered user More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	the bailout included parts that allowed a majority of dems and gop to vote for it. some parts kept others from supporting it, and the "others" included some dems. but the bill they voted on was supposed to be bipartisan and receive a majority of the votes, as counted by the party leadership. if the dems wanted to get 100% of their bloc, it would have been a different bill...but, again, that wasn't the point. the point was to have a bipartisan bill supported by the white house and a bipartisan majority of the house and senate.

It is the President's Recovery Plan. It is HIS BILL. Pelosi delivered over 60% of the Dems for the President's Plan even tho they had lots of problems with it too. HOW COULD THE REPUBLICANS IN THE HOUSE LEAD BUSH TO BELIEVE THEY WOULD SUPPORT HIM and then drop the ball at the last minute because Nancy hurt their feelings? 40% of Dems voted against it because it is the REPUBLICAN administration's solution to the problem.
