I've been wanting to finish some projects around the house for a couple of years now. Some are things we can do ourselves and we have been making some
progress on that. But there are other things (replace back yard fence, replace windows, new doors, etc) that need to be done by contractors. It's so
unbelievably overpriced to get anything done when a contractor is involved. I mean they actually want $10,000 to replace our stupid, boring fence!
Today I found out it's $3500+ to get two sliding glass doors replaced. That would be fine if that's the only thing I need to do with the budget. Unfortunately it's not. How do you people afford to do these projects? You can't all be hiring the mexicans from the Home Depot parking lot are you? Or are you taking out HELOCs and just figuring you'll pay for it all when you sell your house? Am I a crazy person for wanting to do this work with cash instead of a 2nd mortgage?
