I thought it was a jump-the-shark moment. It was so phony and so completely out of character for Blair. While I know that she would EVENTUALLY end up at making the situation work to her advantage, there are a number of steps in between that they skipped over entirely. In fact, this whole storyline is out of character for her. Blair is not desperate and groveling and I hate that they have her acting that way over this Lord whom she has already said she finds boring! If she could keep her strength and dignity last season when she became a pariah, I hate to see her lose it now!

Mostly because Blair was front and center, where she belongs. Though I don't necessarily like the direction the show is going. It seems like they've abandoned the whole high school concept of the show entirely. It feels as if the entire cast, including Jenny, has been rapidly matured to mid 20's land. Blair is now less concerned about getting into an Ivy League school and more concerned about bagging a pedigreed husband? Nate's inheritance has dried up and he's now turning tricks to stay afloat? Jenny is practically starting her own fashion line and hasn't even taken the SATs yet? The story arcs that are done well on this show have always been the high school power struggles. Though I like that they are making us wait for a Blair/Chuck union, unlike immediately repairing Serena and Dan. Blair and Chuck have the most dynamic chemistry and are superb antidote to comatose Serena/Dan. Serena and Dan are so boring the writers can't even come up with a more interesting storyline than them just fucking all the time. Maybe they'll actually explore why they don't do anything but have sex, but somehow I doubt it. The Nate storyline is just about as wooden and unrealistic as Chace's acting abilities. Are we really to believe that this older woman would actually help him out financially in such a way? I mean the Archibald taste isn't exactly cheap. Can't she just find some other rent-a-boy for much cheaper that won't burden her with his problems? And is she going to be giving him a weekly cash advance? Plus are we to believe that she is so damn rich that her husband won't suspect the thousand plus withdrawals from their checking accounts? Brits are exceptionally tight with their purse strings. But no matter, as long as Blair is fighting to be queen bee of any social circle it's a fun watch. Her expressions keep getting more imaginative with each episode. I love that her character has become the wordsmith of sorts. And I enjoy her interactions with Chuck more when they are trying to one up each other.

Seriously. They have them break up in the season finale, only to have them get back together in the season premiere? Way to create dramatic tension there, writers. And the Nate/horny housewife storyline is ripped straight from Desperate Housewives season one. Thanks, saw that once on TV, don't really need to see it recycled. And I don't really see how it goes with his character, but then again, his character is by far the least defined of the core six, so... whatever, I guess.

Good catch, don't forget Dan said he's writing a novel out of his Serena relationship (god i hate when shows do that) and poor girl is homeschooled and probably taking over Dans dads cafe.

It's not a get out of school free card/work permit. And totally forgot about lovely, teenage Dan writing a novel. Come the fuck on?! I mean I can excuse the mention of him getting published in the NYer, that even Nobel/Pulitzer prize winning authors don't get the opportunity, but a novel? He should be more concerned about his college applications essay! Also was anyone else not convinced that Blair would be able to buy a bottle of champagne in a state where they card heavily to buy cigarettes. I mean it's easy to buy booze at bars because they usually look the other way from time to time, and private affairs are just that- private, but a liquor store would have more strict protocol.

Somehow I want it to include Jenny being indebted to Blair for some sort of favor which backfires. Also, I want it to involve Jenny as a thieving little whore.

I like Jenny too, I just wish she were more resourceful. Usually poor people are more crafty, because they kind of have to be to beat the Joneses.

ITA ... i completely forgot they were supposed to be high school students until halfway through the second episode of the season. and judging by the recent pics of Little J at red carpet events in real life, she'll look about 20 years older in 5 episodes' time I enjoy this show but i CANNOT in the slightest stand the Dan/Serena scenes. I've seriously come close to fast forwarding through them. Not just predictable and boring but tbh i think the actors who play them aren't even attractive... so it's this uncomfortable situation where i'm stuck watching two kind of gross people slobber over each other. And as much grief as you lot give Chace Crawford, I think he's Pacino compared to Blake Lively. ALLLLLLLL of her lines are read in this whiny tone, or with this irritating little girly laugh... it's almost embarrassing to see her try to act next to Leighton, the disparity between their talent is so apparent.

Posts: 2046 (09/16/08 2:07 AM) Registered user Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	Lily is presumably still honeymooning with Chuck's dad (for the entire summer? lazy bitch) I can't remember what happened to Eric after he reunited with J in the Hamptons and got her into the White Party, but I did read a tip he'll be getting a bofo in upcoming episodes, so they'll both have to be coming back sometime. Considering Catherine's big speech about how "he can't give you what you desire most", I was hoping there'd be some big reveal that Marcus has erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculations, which would completely turn Blair off him, but meh. He seriously is about as interesting as the wallpaper in those posh apartments - never the first thing you see when you watch this show. Just as quickly as Dan and Serena get back together, they're over again. I knew it wasn't meant to last since Spoiler [+] I read she gets a new boyfriend in a few more eps but I'm not terribly upset. It was cute at first because they were the whole "two different worlds" couple struggling to make it work, but now they're both equally obnoxious and I don't care about either of them. The series really has become all about Chuck and Blair, and I couldn't be happier with it that way. Two far superior and more in-depth, intriguing characters for the writers to play around with and have fun, translating into more enjoyment for me as a viewer. They can't tease those 2 for too long, however, before it becomes S/Lonely Boy-levels of irritating.
