Interesting trivia tidbit: I had the tv guide channel on today and they were interviewing the guy who plays Harry on one of their stupid shows. Apparently, in
the original script, Harry was supposed to be fired in season one and commit suicide by jumping out of his office window.

So Harry was the cartoon guy in the opening?
The flashback at the beginning, when Don was confronted by Betty 1.0, he folded so easily when she told him he wasn't really Don Draper. Was that the incident that set into motion his total devotion to convince himself of things? I mean his own brother came to him and how long did it actually take for him to break his disguise? The only guy (non executives) in the office I see reacting violently to Sal making a pass is Pete. I think Ken would have some sort of understanding or at the very least let it slide. I think Orson Welles (can't remember his name) would look at it as some sort of bohemian thing. And Harry, he would just pretend like it didn't actually happen. Although I don't think any of them would entertain the idea of being with a man. I think anyone that Sal hit on would shun him in the office until there was a party, they got drunk and blabbed the whole thing. |

Probably the best opening title sequence besides Showtime's DEXTER. |

just as carla was leaving to go home, check out how betty switched into "military mode" in that scene.
priceless... wow, then watch betty switch to "bat shit crazy mode" like the last woman i lived with. in her little poka-dot dress... *shudder* and finally switch to "that's it! mode" (the one i did not understand from the utz commercial...) omg. great betty ep. this season is going to be a wild ride.

I love Bets, she's such a mess. Boy, can she be a bitch though.
"They're doing Winnie-The-Pooh - she's going to be Piglet." Grrr. |

This is getting darker and darker and darker.
I wish they'd keep Colin Hanks longer...I like his character. And the catholic religion was kind of romanticized in the 60s...the priests told my brother that he had a star on his forehead and should be a priest. My oldest sister tried to insist to my parents that she wanted to go to a convent, not to college. Those damned Elvis and Haley Mills movies didn't help, either. It was a real phenomenon. |

very interesting peggy ep also. i love how she treats the cyo as a client of sterling coo, and expects the priest to be her "don draper." ummm... or maybe peggy was the don draper and the priest was supposed to be her "duck." (yeah, i like that one better.) the funny part was the priest was amenable to that... OH! and greatest disservice of the ep award belongs to joan not getting that $150 per week job as the tv-reading-scripts-and-understanding-what-they-mean job. joannie was all over that and only an idiot could not see that (plus the client connection!) bone head move, harry. asshole!

This is kind of an interesting character move for Joan, where all of a sudden she "gets" what had been driving Peggy.
The thing about the Utz commercial, I think, was the eyes. When you're making a pitch, you look right into someone's eyes to try and sell it. That erased that last doubt about what had happened with Don and Bobbi. (That's how I took it, anyway.) |

I agree. The Joan storyline was an interesting character development... and it didn't even occur to Harry to offer her the job.

Another awesome, awesome episode.
When Betty was first confronting Don I was breathless. What more can you ever ask of ANY filmed entertainment? Oh man... the characters!!! Don: Hating. Loving. Feel sorry for. Pete: Feel sorry for. Roger: Loving. Duck: Hating. Feel sorry for. Joan: Loving. Feel sorry for. Rooting for. Peggy: Feel sorry for. Rooting for. Betty: Loving. Feel terrifically sorry for. Rooting for. What a goddamm tragedy. oh, best line: "Crabb... Duck. Duck.... Crabb." oh, and best little bit: Anonymous secretary scared to enter Xerox room the priest is in. and oh, the priest and the guitar... so much love. |
