It was the first time I had EVER been to a nightclub/lounge before, and they asked me if I wanted a drink. I haven't drank extensively since college, and the only mixed drink I know is a long island. I didn't know what to say, and I didn't want a long island, so I ended up not getting anything. I was thereafter named the DD for the night What kind of mixed drinks are good? You'll have to experiment, unfortunately, and see which you like best, and which give you the best buzz/worst hangovers, etc. Often what you liked in college just to get fucked up isn't what you decide to enjoy later when your only objective isn't to get blotto in an hour.

But rum and coke is always a safe bet. Gin and tonic is a good starter. Both Khnum's suggestions were great, they call it a cape cod (Cran and Vodka).

Or a non-acholic drink. It's not like you HAVE to order a mixed drink at a bar, especially if you're not particularly into them, which is how you sound.
