When nothing was said, I assumed I had heard wrong. That's weird that they still gave it to him.

During the comp, the stage manager is kneeling on the ground under the camera in front of Julie. He's got a big piece of cardboard with pictures of all the HG's and check boxes underneath for comps like the answer questions or find the vetos. As the HG's find a veto or answer a question correctly, he checks off boxes. As soon as an HG is eliminated, he takes their pictures down. As soon as they have a winner, he pulls that picture off and holds it up for Julie to see and she announces it.
This is all done in full view of the 100+ people in the audience. If they were to rig it, I'd think they'd just pick a comp suited to a specific HG.
