Courtesy of SF.Net We got the Tribal Council Promo VO Every day millions of Americans go about their familiar routines with friends and family in safe surroundings. But this fall eighteen of them will be thrust into a land beyond their wildest imaginations. This is Gabon, Earth's last Eden. Located in equatorial Africa, Gabon is one of the world's last remaining sanctuaries for pure untouched wilderness. The culture of Gabon reflects the beauty of this ancient land with rituals and dances as pure today as they were generations ago. Gabon is the only place on the planet where surfing hippos ride the waves. And elephants roam with gorillas as leopards keep watch. Eighteen Americans will be caught in the midst of natures fierce battle for survival as they live among some of the world's most dangerous animals. The promo opens with a river/lake sort of setting, and comes back to a lake. Tribe locations near water seem more photogenic... Is this the opening savannah again? No trees in this shot, but similar grassland and certainly no river/lake. I wonder if this is a safari reward, rather than a landrover marooning? (Or just random unrelated wildlife, like the chinese pandas.) If they are marooned by jeep, I sure hope everyone thought to wear jeep-riding clothing (rather than temple-going). I'd sure just as soon not watch another one with people going around in their underwear. Another night challenge? And a meke? Or just standard dinner reward with the natives...

'Gabon Magazine' and Survivor Maps indicate S17 was filmed in the Wonga Wongue reserve, which is described as a mixture of rain forest and savanna. The truck picture appears to be in a very dry region with giraffe chewed trees. Giraffes are not among the animals of Gabon. Per this link you DO have to travel by both boat and truck to reach the reserve.

Apparently the thorn 'bombas' of S3 are not enough to deter the thick skinned, near sighted surfing hippos of Gabon. I suspect the same type of fence will be around the tribal camps.

I am a long time lurker( I got hooked back in the Gervase X days when sucks wasn't even this!)and I wanted to give you all props, especially the pbpers, you rock!!! I'm looking forward to this season being, hopefully, as tough as s3 and we get some real players (Libra from BB thinks it would be a cakewalk:snort!) and some fantastic meltdowns!

Crystal Cox, who won gold at the Athens Games in 2004 as part of the 4x400m track relay team, is the biggest name on the roster this season, which premieres with a two-hour episode on Sept. 25. Also among the fresh faces is Jessica "Sugar" Kiper (Gilmore Girls fans may remember her as the pin-up model who made out with Milo Ventimiglia during her four-episode arc as Shane) and Ken Hoang, the current international champion of Nintendo's Super Smash Brothers Melee video game. I know the blur-o-matic guy will be busy. Those business suits should also come in handy Does the yellow tribe have fire? I can't tell if it's wisp of smoke or dust by the pot (not Bob's feet). Or maybe they just made a nice firepit....Bob doesn't look very happy as he walks away above, and niether do they. Alienation? I mean, it's so real-looking that it's exciting and scary Does Probst even remember that he is on a REALITY show? Teehee Bob, wearing sensible marooning clothes. Traditional Pygmy hut. Seems a lot like the style they are building? They must have gotten some coaching, because it's very different from what tribes usually start out to build, some sort of lean-to or open-sided shed. Basically square rather than round. (Did we get our weather girl report yet? This style looks good for shade, perhaps not so much rain.) They must have gotten tools somehow? Those slats do not look like something you'd make with your bare hands. Could it be that the two african guys lead them to some sort of partially constructed campsite? From Cameroon, all wood, but the same style of ribs on the outside. From a part of Cameroon where there are a lot of rocks. Same form, different materials. (Yeah, yeah, OT, but gosh, there's next to nothing for photos. I hope the myspace team thinks to post some...) I'm guessing the yellow team does have fire. Would you hang the pot that close over your kindling if you were still trying to get it started? Wouldn't it be more normal to start the fire then hang the pot? The body language doesn't quite look like a rest stop on the hike - the groups are too widely separated. The three outlying groups of three all look like are the midst of some decision-making process, whereas the middle group of nine looks more like they are just waiting. Something to do with the pick-em? I don't see buffs. There seem to be six flags - did they split up with three at each one, then report back to the middle when your decision is made? Some sort of bag of supplies each tribe was given? Reward from first challenge? Or this is just the style bag each person gets to carry his stuff, but why would Bob be sniffing? Is this bag what Bob is carrying as he stomps away from the fire? Rice that he just dumped in the pot? (On closer look, definitely yes on yellow team having fire. Maybe they go around the flags picking people so the last person picked isn't the one picking the next, then combine the groups with the same color. and/or, assuming the younger ones around Probst are the ones so far unchosen, they are picking for the next color without knowing which groups will be combined at the end?

That has to be after the above shot, since they are fully dressed. They aren't wearing buffs in these shots either. Well, sheesh, I hope the editors try a teeny bit harder when they're cutting the actual episodes... So yall are thinking all the contestants are in the center, we just don't see them behind the rocks, and the outlying groups are camera crews, getting direction on how to shoot whatever momentous thing is coming up? Or maybe this is where they first meet Probst, the africans lead them to here? In the black and white standing in a group shots (just before the pick-em?), looks like the clothes are already off, so maybe they came off for the walk, not just prior to a challenge. Nobody looks tired or winded, it must not be one of those all-day marooning slogs... (Did they just take clothes off, or did they get the change? Like Ace, in the waiting at the rocks picture has long jean pants, then in the clothes off picture, he has quite long short pants. Would he have been wearing camo underwear that long with his jeans?) I dunno, I can't tell any of the blond women or the brunette men apart...

Brunette opposite him is wearing the same pink dress as in the cast shot. Blond in the middle is wearing the same yellow shirt and black pants as in the cast shot. The guy above Probst looks to be carrying a camera. In the upper right that looks like Randy's shirt and blue pants that he wore in the cast picture. Charlie(?) in blue tee shirt and black pants as in the cast picture to the right of him. That could be Gillian (hat and hair) to the left of him, but she's not wearing the same clothes as in the cast photo. . . maybe another production person? Maybe this is just part of the pre production cast picture shoot? As croc said in the series he posted, they have shed clothing but aren't wearing buffs so that may be at the point when the game actually begins.
