If they bring it back, can they try a little harder to weed out low-talent posers like Ryan Star?

I love Ryan Star.
Him, Dilana, Suzy, JD, Marty, Mig, Ty, Jordis. So many good singers. Season one had better singers IMO. |

Storm Large was the only one I loved Season 2. INXS was much, MUCH better.

Drew B wrote: I felt that Season 1 was better too. And I think that was because, before auditioning the singers, the interviewers had a cohesive vision of what the band
(ie, INXS) might like and even though they started the show with a nice variety of singers, they seemed to "stack the deck" with a lot of power
singers.
The second season, stylistically, the singers were all over the place and I feel that was because the people who made the final decisions on choosing the
competitors didn't know what genre of rock music the band, whatever it might be, was going to do. I don't even think the interviewers had a clue who
the other band members would be (ie, Tommy, Gil, etc.) Thus, stylistically, the singers were all over the map. I think that also helped audience in deciding
whether or not to watch the show during the summer. Right away the audience is thinking ,"Oh, INXS! I used to love them." The audience knew the type of music that band usually did and you were excited by the possibilities that old favorite songs might be
re-interpreted with a new twist. Whereas with "SuperNowhere", you had no idea. Were they going for a heavy metal sound? Hard rock? Alternative?
Gothic-industrial.. what!? No one knew. I don't think even Tommy and company had any clue what kind of sound they
were going for which made season two feel a lot more frustrating right out of the gate. Plus, personally, I would've liked it better if Tommy, Gil, and
whatchacallit had each jumped up there and jammed with one of the contestants and the house band a lot sooner in the process than they did. As it was, it
wasn't until practically at the end, and by then I had some real negative vibes towards SuperNowhere. "Yeah, yeah, it's easy to sit on yer ass and
criticize. Let's see YOU get up there." and finally they did. I should've loved this band. I love classic
hard rock and heavy metal. A powerful driving beat that you FEEL, mmmm-hmm! That THUMPs so hard, it could perform CPR on your heart if it ever stopped beating.
Yes! But I couldn't get interested in SuperNoGood because it was just so.. thrown together. They really needed to
spend a lot more time working together, do more trying stuff out, to gel and find their strength, to find their "sound". So, long story short: If
they had done that for a few months prior to the interviewing process, the interviewers would've known what types of singers to look for and we
might've had a much better season.
Or maybe that's just my weird-ass opinion.
I'd also like to see them widen the variety of songs in their library of rock songs that are given to the competitors to sing. I mean, please, how many more times are we gonna have to hear "Heart Shaped Box" and so on? I would loved it if one of the challenges was that all of the competitors were "stuck" re-interpreting a non-rock song, ala "Ring of Fire" by Dilana. Okay, so she sucked when it came to throwing together a new song in under two days but she sure rocked that one. And I think that's one thing that you would have to learn as a band: how to take a song, change it and "make it your own", so to speak. But, again, that's just my weird-ass opinion. Edited to fix typo's (assuming I found them all).

Despite how blatant this show is with their rigging (ie, Dilana getting the most votes each week but Supernova didn't want her, so they show negative
footage of her at the house), i'd like to see this come back. <3

Suzy McNeil has had some success up here in Vancouver and the rest of Canada. Here is a pdf file of an article that ran in our local Vancouver newspaper last
week.
http://www.suziemcneil.ca/pdfs/provBC_080207.pdf Rockstar was my second choice listing in the "what reality shows should return during the writers strike" (or something to that end) thread. First the Mole is coming back now Rockstar??? Could No Boundaries be next??? ..(3rd choice on my list) .. Ecstatic to hear that we Canucks get a chance to show the rest of the world how to rock it out!! YA!~ |

Way to get my hopes up, SWM. I thought when this thread popped back up we'd be getting news about a 3rd season.
Is it my imagination or didn't I just see Lukas in the audience at CI? |

I would love for a third season of Rock Star, I loved that show. The talent pool was excellent and the performances were generally really good.

Everytime this thread gets bumped I have a slight hope that i'll open it and it will say Rockstar Returns....it never happens though
Ryan Star came on my radio a few days ago, which leads me to believe he's the most successful person to come out of this show, as i'm yet to hear any other contestants come on the radio. |

Pretty Vegas had a pretty good run on radio, didn't it?
Rock Star really was such a great show, and the singers on it could actually, ya know...sing. Which was nice. |

INXS had a really successful tour and cd, and Ryan Star seems to be getting some serious play. Doesn't surprise me, the guy has a great voice when he's
doing his own thing.
The problem with a 3rd season is..who needs a lead singer? And not just some thrown together band of guys who have no intention of becoming a real deal. It would have to be a band people care about, and Queen already said no way, so did Alice in Chains. |

Well, didn't ZZ Top talk to Cook? Maybe they are looking for someone. Would kind of put the girls out of the running, otoh.

INXS and Supernova were never going to have a female lead so I doubt that would be an issue.
