The Packers reaction to Favre really makes no sense to me.

It was dumb, but not illogical. Ted Thompson wants to be in charge, and he can't do that with Favre around. So he pressured Favre to retire, so the Pack could 'move on'. Favre decided he didn't want to retire after all (and he's certainly not the first player to do so), so Favre said he wanted to come back or get his release. Thompson doesn't want Favre to play, and he doesn't want to release Favre because the two teams that are the best fit for Favre are Chicago and Minnesota. So he told Favre he could hold the clipboard for Aaron Rodgers, thinking Favre would back down.

Now the Packers want to trade him, and are asking for a first round draft pick for a player that they have publicly said is not good enough to even compete for the starting QB spot. And every team knows that the Pack will have to cut Favre by opening day, so all they have to do is keep offering a 6th round pick until the Packers are forced to cut Favre. Then the Vikings will sign him.

And every player on the Packers (and the rest of the NFL) is rooting for Favre. If the Packers treat a living legend like this, every player on the Packers is thinking "What are they going to do to me in a few years?"

I guess now that i think about it, maybe you're right. Did Thompson really think he could win a pissing contest with one of the most competitive human beings in the world?
