Comic-Con: 'Watchmen' panel attracts thousandsJul 25, 2008, 05:45 PM | by Nicole Sperling Categories: Comic-Con 2008
Snyder delighted fans with a beautiful, artistic extended trailer that, as Snyder put it, showed "the non-PG aspects of the movie." (It was also the first time the cast saw the trailer, and Goode asked for a repeat showing of the footage at the end of the panel.) Jensen politely grilled Gibbons on why his cocreator, Alan Moore, can't get over his long-standing grudge against Hollywood. "I see there is an elephant in the room," Gibbons said. "I wish he could feel the joy I'm feeling and not have had such a bad experience before." All the cast addressed taking on their iconic, subversive characters. Said Jeffrey Dean Morgan of his morally ambiguous Comedian, "Getting into costume and sticking a cigar in my mouth helped me want to kill people." Synder added, "Saw is dark because people get their arms sawed off. People get their arms sawed off in our movie too, but for different reasons. For moral reasons." Written by Alex Tse and David Hayter, the film will bow on March 6, 2009. |

Funny that you mentions it, Undertakess, because I saw a professional-looking dude reading Watchmen. He admitted that it took him five trips to different
stories before he found one.

People who have never read Watchmen before but are buying it now piss me off. Don't you assholes want to be surprised?
I'm going to go into the Watchman movie blind, not knowing what to expect. That's the kick ass way to do it! I'm so FUCKING awesome! |

StarJay, you know I lurve ya, but I am getting so much out of re-reading the novel. I blew it off when I had to do it the first time..big mistake. I only
retained bits and pieces of info.

Well I rather not know what's going to happen when I watch the movie.

But they're being very faithful to the novel - with some of the sets/scenese the same as depicted in the novel. I think it's kind of cool. Do it do it
do it do it do it do it!!!

People who have never read Watchmen before but are buying it now piss me off. Don't you assholes want to be surprised? In this case, no it's not. No way the movie can get all of the little details and allegories that made the series so great. Read the damn book first! As a side note, I hated Jeffry Dean Morgan's character in Gray's Anatomy and look forward to seeing his face slashed.

I'm curious as to whether or not the movie runs in the same sequence as the novel. I hope it does because the way the novel is written and it's format
is perfect.
StaJu, you really should read it before you go see the movie. That way, just in case the movie fucks things up, you'll know the way things were REALLY supposed to happen. Who else thinks StaJu should read the novel first, raise your hand! :::raises hand::: |

It's a very easy read too - I'm on #3 already. Just got the book yesterday. We can have a Watchmen bookgroup! |

Definitely should read it ahead of time - I'm rereading it now so that I'm up on the details before the movie comes out. There are so many little
"throw away" things going on in the background that you'll never get if you don't read (and study the illustrations in) the book ahead of
time. Watching the video diaries and seeing the care that they took to put the little things in the movie, leads me to believe that it would be better to be
pretty knowledgeable ahead of time.
As long as the movie is done well, reading the book ahead of time isn't going to hurt my enjoyment of the movie and usually helps me fill in any gaps in the narrative. I never would have been able to follow The Golden Compass if I hadn't read the book - of course, that may be because they did a shit job translating it to film, but I'd still prefer to refresh my knowledge. |

I loved the Golden Compass book, and the movie was okay, but I didn't like the changes they made ..especially the ending.
I'm loving this though. Rorschach is so...cool. |
